But Why Tho? - William Tucker

    Nov 23, 2022

Daredevil #5 is a great issue. It enjoys the past while subtly hinting at a dangerous future. The Fist appears to be an organization set up to repel the Hand, but it is just as mysterious with as much potential for darkness. Daredevil never comes out of these dealings unscathed and is already showing signs of instability. And the creative partnerships in this comic are jaw-dropping in all aspects. Read Full Review

Chip Zdarsky and Rafael De Latorre waste no time in showing the immediate impact the marriage of Matt Murdock and Elektra Natchios has for the future of the Daredevil series. From all the character interactions to Matt Murdock's inner monologue Daredevil #5 is yet another example of why this is one of the best comic books Marvel is publishing. Read Full Review

Daredevil #5 is really the first issue that feels like the promise of Zdarskys new direction is starting to be fulfilled. The goodbyes are said. The old love is in the rearview mirror. And the transition, handled somewhat clumsily in the previous issue, is over. Its another solid issue that keeps the new storyline fresh and interesting. Read Full Review

Omg I have to say as a life-long daredevil fan I have been loving every minute of zdarsky's run as he has been delivering everything I love about daredevil. The direction this book is heading is beyond exciting to me! This issue is pretty much a perfect daredevil book to me I loved every panel of this issue! The writing and artwork were brilliant. I'd honestly like to score this book 100 out of 10 lol. " if you were he wouldn't have sent the devil." That was so cool! I absolutely loved this issue!!!!!!!!!

"Hn. Daredevil. Don't need saving. I'm right with God." "If you were... he wouldn't have sent the Devil." Even with a lot of uncertainty over his plan, Daredevil moves forward with his plan and decides to recruit some super-villains from a prison in the middle of the ocean. What ensues is one of the most Badass fights I've ever had the pleasure of reading. Absolutely insane issue with insane art.

A really good issue. Checchetto's art here looks a little rougher/more rushed than usual, but Marco Checchetto at 80% is better than most artists at 100%, so I can't really complain. Walker and Daredevil's back and forth was great, with hornhead dropping one of the coldest lines I've ever read in a DD comic. I gotta say though, I'm getting real tired of the word "fascist" and other similar words being thrown around so casually. All it does is water them down to the point that they can be used the suit the user's own subjective opinions without actually being based in reality. It's a careless use of speech at best and dangerous at worst. Definitions matter. That's all. Again, this issue was great, so my quibbles are small.

Now we're cooking with gas. A plot that's exciting in itself while also serving as a lens for examining Matt's character. Gorgeous art. Snappy lines that land with impeccable timing. But it's not flawless. Some of the scene transitions are choppy, and not because the creators want to build tension. Stegron has no place in this story, but the creators *really* wanted him here. His cameo ends up being the prime example of a rough scene cutoff.

It was a good issue to an extent. I like the idea of it, it just lacked the emotion it could have used to take it to the next level. Side note. It's little things like this that make me dislike Cap. If Bucky would have done this he'd be asking Tony to investigate more, but since it's not, let's bring Daredevil in.

Stilt-man! He's alive!!!! I like that Matt finally recognizes the abuse that can happen in supermax prisons, but I wouldn't have guessed how far he'd take this revelation.

I'm not sure of this take of the Hand having powers. Nor do I like Matt with a beard. I assume he's no longer a lawyer, but the scruffy look wouldn't do well in court. I've always liked the dynamic between Daredevil and Elektra. I was glad to hear that they got married. One of the few marriages the editors of the big two let go through. I thought Stick had died, but I guess he's back. I like the battle with US Agent and we'll see what happens when the Avengers get involved.

A great story set back by one sided proselytizing about how prisons are bad. Prisons ARE bad, that's why they're used to punish and deter crime. The other side of the coin is the vast majority of people in prison did something to get themselves there, and they left victims behind in their wake, victims who curiously rarely get the same level of compassion as the criminals from the prisons are bad crowd.

I was looking for a hot Double D and 'Lektra honeymoon issue and all I got was a blah blah prison break issue that starts with Leonard Samson, Green Sasquatch Grinch therapist. This series needs to get its act together or show me some spicy marriage tiffs. Full Review at: https://standupcomicreader.blogspot.com/2022/12/daredevil-5-review.html
