This issue is full of so many things that I should love in a Spider-Man story, but the lack of clarity and cohesion with this issue drags it down. Theres one more chapter coming, so Im holding out hope that Spencer, Brisson, and the rest of the team will be able to give us that final punch to make this storyline a win for the fans. Final Thoughts:Amazing Spider-Man #69 continues to build up more of its grand conspiracy all while Spidey tries to deal with a heist. The comic is actually pretty fun for the most part when it has Spider-Man fighting the super-villains, but the weak point is the “conspiracy” part of this story. It feels like the Chameleon and The Finisher are just talking in circles with each other. But the comic does its part to build up the conspiracy as well as it can for the next big issue. Amazing Spider-Man has been given a new intriguing element thanks to the news of Nick Spencer's departure, as we're witnessing an active effort to resolve plots and reset characters in Spider-Man's life. That's an interesting thing to see actively transpiring on the page which adds a meta-level element to a series that may have too much plot. Read Full Review

The Chameleon Conspiracy is the definition of a filler story arc. Every aspect of this story fallen flat from the very beginning. There are just too many rushed elements to make this a compelling narrative alongside the ongoing Kindred Saga. This story needs to end now so we can move on to, hopefully, better stories in Amazing Spider-Man. Read Full Review

This is such a weird arc. The pacing feels so off. This feels like two arcs smashed together into one slightly truncated arc. I don't know if Nick Spencer's run got cut short or what, but I really can't believe this was the original intention when Spencer planned all this out. The Giant-Size issue coming next has so much heavy lifting to do to make this arc click for me. It's frustrating because I don't hate what I'm reading, not at all, I just don't understand why. Whereas before, I could just say, "Well, it's probably for a future arc," I know there's only Sinister War left, so I just... don't get it. I hope it wraps up in a satisfying way. I remember King's Ransom was kind of similar in that the pacing seemed off at points, but that one ended up working out. I hope Sinister War and the finale to Nick Spencer's run doesn't suffer from this pacing issue. more

Man... I wish if people are going to write for trade, Marvel can redirect their efforts into graphic novels. So many plots make this go at a snail's pace. There're good stories but there are too many in this issue. For the love of Peter Parker, I'm way more invested in the Sinister Six War brewing up in the epilogues.

This book has too many moving parts and I finally understand why. It just went nuts these last few issues as Spencer is leaving and he's trying to resolve the narrative threads. It does not help that the 3 art teams are not complementary to each other. This is all over the place in all facets.

"I could have a friend who somehow doesn't somehow get dragged in to some evil-villain scheme that Spider-man has to rescue them from." -Peter Parker- Indeed, Parker seems doomed to be a magnet for tragic friendships. I hardly give a comic a bad rating, only that the way Spencer handled his departure from the series was by giving us this installment of frayed threads linked together by an ugly tie. It is not a delivery to use in a campfire, but if something disappointing, not when The amazing is usually a solid series.

Usually Chameleon stories rate 3 1/2-4 stars with me, but this one is really just about the dullest story in Spencer's whole run I'm sad to say. It's packed with an overcrowded cast, but so little is done. All I really look forward to in the conclusion is just that. For it to be finished.

This is the first issue for a while where I'm bored and annoyed. There are so many moving parts and none of them feel connected to each other. Maybe the finale will fix this and make it more coherent but currently it's very messy.

Spencer is losing control of what he created with this series. There are too many plots that were thrown in the mix during these three years and it just feels overcrowded. Also, the dialogues in this are simply terrible (and Spencer has always been brilliant with dialogues).

Jamie betrays Spidey, Chance & Foreigner's goons betray them to the Finisher, and the Finisher goes completely off the deep end trying to intimidate Teresa/confuse the readers. I don't like the art collaboration, even though the individual parts are good. I absolutely loathe the Teresa scenes, not because of her, but because the Finisher's foreshadowing is total crap. But for seven blissful pages, Spidey is actually clobbering badguys and making funny quips. … that should not feel like such a rare treat in AS-#$%#&@#-M.

Holy Buddha, at least make the story interesting. Jesus christ, how the hell did Spider-Man turn into this? Something's wrong when I prefer Tynion's Batman over Spener's Spider-Man. The art is bland, the dialogue and chemistry dont work for me. This is literally a filler event for Sinister War. I dont care about the other characters or how this whole conspiracy with the Chameleon is because the dialogue doesnt make me feel attached. I understand Nick Spencer wanting to use the Clairvoyant to bring it back, but at least have a better plot. Cant wait for this to be over so Sinister War can start. After Last Remains, its like Nick Spencer lost all of his creative juices.
