    AIPT - David Brooke

All in all, Cody Ziglar and Michael Dowling crush their two-part story by further developing the interesting character dynamics at work. Amazing Spider-Man #80 also offers up some trippy art and a battle that shows Ben is worthy particularly when he's not drugged. The Beyond era of Spider-Man is grand thanks to a good mix of character drama, dynamic action, and a hero who suffers from imposter syndrome. Read Full Review

Amazing Spider-Man #80 delivers a fun and surreal Spider-Man story as Ben Reilly faces Kraven The Hunter. The story is well-written as Ben struggles to fight Kraven on two fronts while trying to keep a foot in reality. The art team does an amazing job with the art and colors, especially the surreal visual designs for Kraven and the imagery in Ben's mind. It's a fun conclusion to this two part Kraven story with Ben. A very good book overall, my only problem is that if you didn't read the previous issue, this might be a little confusing. If you're a regular Spider-Man reader then you're definitely going to enjoy this one! Read Full Review

Beyond and simmering subplots, all of which bring Bronze Age charm with them, but this issue sells itself on a creative reconstruction of the classic Spider-Man vs. Kraven the Hunter mechanics with abundant flair. Read Full Review

Dowling does some great work with the art in the issue. The trippy visuals and changes in style work really well with the tone of the story. Read Full Review

Another fine issue of Amazing Spider-Man is a bit too much like previous issues of this same storyline. It's like a filler issue, just sending Spidey up against a classic villain while we wait for the actual story-moving issues to come later. Read Full Review

Comic Book Revolution - Kevin Lainez

    Dec 06, 2021

Amazing Spider-Man #80 was a solid story that presented a true challenge for Ben Reilly to overcome. More stories like this where we see Spider-Man fight Kraven will help Ben gain more credibility as the permanent person carrying the mantle. If the Beyond Board writers can improve the writing of the supporting cast of this series then Spider-Man Beyond could be a big success when all is said and done. Read Full Review

But Why Tho? - Collier "CJ" Jennings

    Dec 01, 2021

Amazing Spider-Man #80 takes Ben Reilly, and the audience, into a hallucinogenic horror show that tests the web-slinger's state of mind. With the next issue promising a slugfest between Miles Morales and Ben, as well as the return of another classic Spider-Man villain, the Beyond Saga is starting to heat up. Read Full Review

Mike Dowling is just amazing, and the colors provided by Jesus Aburtov and Erick Arciniega fit really well. I was not hyped for the Cody Ziglar's issues, since he is a new comic writter, but damn, his issues were great. But overall I wanted to see more Ben and Janine, these Beyond characters are not that fun.

I really liked this creative team. Both issues were great and I'm really looking forward to the next issue. The artwork once again really stands out. Mike Dowling, Jesus aburtov and Erick arciniega do an amazing job!

This is your standard ASM issue with great art. Much better than the first part. I know where we're going so I hope they throw some curve balls soon otherwise it will be a story I read many many times before. Dowling's art is really good here and Aburtov's colors were a nice match!

This issue hooked me hard. While the dialogue gets a little wordy in some places, in others it's simply great -- this is a terrific voice for Ben. The visuals are generally strong, rising to tour-de-force levels with the hallucinations at the start. And of course, the "after credits" scene is pure spider-nerd catnip. I like the way this arc is coming together -- and the way this particular creative team pulls the strings.

It's pretty good. Lately all these Beyond issues have been pretty good. I don't have any big problems with them, I just wish this book didn't have to juggle all these characters. So in other words? I wanna see more Ben. And Janice. And less of these Beyond characters. But for what it is, it's fine. Even if this bothers me a bit, it doesn't make this a bad issue.

This was good. I wish I was more excited for what's happening, but these are simple, fairly standard Spider-Man stories with the added Beyond twist, and that's fun, but it's not the most engaging thing. At least we get some insight into Ben here that I hope is explored further.

I'm really more invested to knowing how Peter will comeback than in the Beyond story, but nonetheless, this is still fun, Ziglar and Dowling did a great job.

Issue was fun. Can't really say what they(Beyond) are planning. What's their secret motive? The most important sub plot I am interested in. Though Cody Ziglar used trope of Ben not being Spider-Man but he used in fun way.

It was a solid entry. Nothing spectacular overall but, some nice looking pages and moments and a good ending.

The problem with this Beyond arc is that the issues are almost conclusive. The scheme is: A) there's a threat, B) Ben manages to defeat the enemy while almost getting killed (he's nowhere near as powerful as Peter, even with that suit, C) the issue ends with him going back to Janine and Beyond saying "oh Ben we were worried, just do what we ask for!". It's getting a little tedious, but I like the art and the situations so it's ok, I think. And the May-Otto part... Eh eh.

It was a good issue, but I wish we had more stuff happening in this issue. Also, I kinda wish that the book showed Ben hold his own against Kraven son/clone, but he sluggish manhandled most of it. So far BEYOND, hasnt given any wins to Ben or enough character development for him. I realize he can be a polarizing character but as he is the current fill-in Spider-man, I d like to see him beat some as once in a whole like Peter does. Ending with May was the best scene. ART is the best part of this!! Wish he was still doing Black Cat :(
