Like Johnny Appleseeds magical seeds, stories shape our cultural consciousness. While the issue provides deeper insight into Simons past, the shadow of a great American storyteller hangs Redcoat #9. Perhaps one of his major literary works laid a foundation stone for the series. The writers life and stories certainly influence Simon's relationship with Johnny. Plot This story takes place in 1816, when Simon meets Johnny Appleseed, both are friends from the past and decide to meet again once a year to catch up on their adventures. Johnny Appleseed is an important character in the history of the USA, he was in charge of getting the best place to plant apples and he did it very successfully. In the comic Johnny has some knowledge of magic and knows how to intuit it so he accidentally makes Simon activate one of his apple seeds, creating a fruit of exaggerated dimensions that also includes a worm of this size. The comic highlights how Simon has a low opinion of himself, but Johnny believes in him, he compares him to a green apple, which at some point will mature and become the kind and good -hearted being that he has locked away behind so many traumas that adding his immortality makes him less human and cruel. Johnny Appleseed is Simon's ground wire. Simon still does not know the potential of his power, it is a magic that responds differently in each situation. This annual cider drinking get-together turns into a new adventure that both will remember. Using historical facts and characters, this series offers an exciting, magical, heroic and alternate view of American history that thrills. Art Bryan Hitch offers his cinematic vision, directing mesmerizing action sequences and capturing the details and tones of each era of yesteryear. The colors create the perfect atmosphere of a rough post-war era. He has a mesmerizing handling of scale, transporting and shaking you with shocking realistic visions in a very film-like format. Summary Simon Pure has a friends reunion with Johnny Appleseed but it turns into a new large-scale adventure. more

Redcoat has been a good series so far - entertaining, but not quite on the level of Geiger, if you ask me. With this issue however, Johns and Hitch have surpassed themselves and created something very special. To be honest, I'd rather follow Johnny Appleseed's journey than Simon Pure's.

Another great Redcoat. Not my favorite issue, but a fun journey with Johnny Appleseed and another story that adds a layer to Simon.

Other really good issue. I really enjoyed this. It was simple, but had a lot of character depth. Looking forward to the next issue.
