Nightwing #101

Nightwing #101 runs straight into large, personal storylines that offer our hero the chance to flex multiple muscles, teases us with the titans before their new book drops in May and brings back Neron for nostalgia flair. Obviously, this is way above our hero's pay grade, so it will be great to see how he handles this threat versus, say, Batman. These two stories are going to be big. Nightwing #101 is fantastic. Buy it, read it, share it, and love it. Marvel's series, Fantastic Four, used to go out with the sub-heading "The World's Greatest Comics Magazine. In my humble opinion, Nightwing has inherited that crown and is wearing it with style. Read Full Review

It's great to see Dick working with Raven and Beast Boy again in particular, and I like seeing those two portrayed as competent adult heroes instead of being constantly reset back to their teen years. Nightwing #101 works around the appearance of Jon Kent pretty effectively. The main story does a great job of setting the reader up for a heavy hitting confrontation for the Titans. The character work is great as usual, and it's a real joy to read them all interacting together. There's a big chunk of nostalgia with this, but what comes next promises to be great as well! Nightwing #101 is a strong follow-up to the new direction Dick Grayson is taking as a pillar in the Dawn of DC. Connecting this story with Neron as the villain to how things ended with Blockbuster worked to transition us into a pilot for the upcoming Titans ongoing series. That along with a lot of great character interactions continue to show why Nightwing is one of DC Comics standout series. Read Full Review

Taylor and Moore have a solid story going that feels like it wouldnt be quite the same in any other genre. Its very, very difficult to put together a murder mystery story that fits the unique form and style of a superhero story, but Taylor and Moore have presented an entertaining premise that could work well for the next few issues of the series even if theyre not totally centered on the title character. Nightwing deserves a title more closely aligned with him. In time, things might line up for him in that fashion, but the 101st issue is spending a lot of time setting up conflicts for the future.  Read Full Review

Nightwing #101 picks up where issue #98 left off with a plot by Lord Neron to steal Olvia Desmond's soul. The technical aspects of the writing (pacing, dialog, scene transitions) are solid, but the story needs more urgency and energy. However, the art team delivers a rock-solid performance. Nightwing #101 plays it safe by delivering a decent set up to what could be a nice arc that examines Nightwing and his relationship to the Titans. Nonetheless, while the narrative is solid, there's little surprise in store and the competent art does little to spice things up. A solid issue, and Travis Moore's clean, expressive art is the perfect substitute for Redondo. The backup story, however, didn't really add anything but a dollar

I agree with some of the reviews. I wasn't happy at all with 100, but this one took a pleasant turn. I really enjoyed it. The cute scene in the beginning with the little girl, the mystery with the King's body, and the shapeshifter. Though I had to suspend belief that Nightwing would get hit over the head so easily. It was great to see Neron again. I don't think he's appeared anywhere for years. I'm not a fan of Jon Kent since he was aged up, but I even liked the backup story. Though I'm not sure why Nightwing needs to be bumped up to $5.00.

After the intensity of the past two years, I am fine with a break, but this is just fluff and not very interesting fluff at that. Did we need Blockbuster to have a daughter and did we need to bring back Neron?
