You Don't Read Comics - Jason A. Fleece
Nov 07, 2019Bendis is smart to tie the Legion into more present-day DC mythology than just the world of Superman, and this issue sets up several new dilemmas that will undoubtedly plague the Legion in the future. Surprisingly, this issue does not continue the thread of the immortal Rose and Thorn and what she (they?) wants from the Legion, but certainly that will come into play soon as well. The Legion is no more. Long Live the Legion. Read Full Review

Nov 06, 2019Buy Legion of Super-Heroes #1!!!!! This is ground floor “re-imagination” of the team. The only drawback of this issue is that it's not bigger, as there are so many characters that need to be highlighted. I hope that Bendis can balance all of these mainstay characters, while telling rich stories, issue after issue! Read Full Review

Nov 06, 2019The Legion has less focus than I would have expected in Legion of Super-Heroes #1, with many getting only a line or two in the first issue, but the key to a great Legion book is an epic scope. That Bendis and Sook absolutely get right in their first issue. Read Full Review

Nov 08, 2019This relaunch is absolutely gorgeous to look at, with lots of thought put into grabbing readers' eyes, but whether the writing will be able to hold them is still in question. While not overflowing in exposition for each new character introduced, this does make connecting with this new Legion of Superheroes slightly more difficult. Read Full Review

Nov 08, 2019Bendis writes a very compressed comic. Not a lot happens for my money. It feels like you just about open the book and then you find yourself at the end. Now, it is pretty decent overall. But it feels more like a snack and not a full meal. The best part is Ryan Sook's artwork. He makes the snack feel much more filling than it really is. Read Full Review

Nov 12, 2019Bendis captures the tone of the young Legion well which is exactly what I want here and Sook's energy and enthusiasm as expressed through the artwork is great. I can't wait for more. Read Full Review

But Why Tho? - Charles Hartford
Nov 06, 2019Legion of Super-Heroes #1 has perhaps started off a bit cautiously. While some may feel the approach to both story and art a bit too textbook, I think they serve the setting presented wonderfully. And while it's too early to tell if DC's latest trip to the 31st century will bear fruit, as of now I am very optimistic. Read Full Review

Comic Watch - Matt Meyer
Nov 06, 2019Although the characterization falls short (but predictably in Bendis comfort zone) and the plot is pretty thin, its hard not to fall in love with Jon Kents first trip to the 31st century. The art alone is worth the trip, but theres nothing at all present to bar a return trip for future issues. Read Full Review

Nov 08, 2019Legion of Superheroes #1 is a strong start. Bendis and Sook do a mostly good job of building the world without too much exposition and info-dumping. While I don't know much about the characters besides Jon yet, I do look forward to finding out. The ending falls flat, but it's not enough to ruin a solid, incredibly well-drawn book. Nov 06, 2019So while it looks beautiful the return of the Legion of Super-Heroes reads pretty thin. All the elements are there and it truly does look fantastic, but there is no spark behind the flight rings. At least right now at the opening. I really want the future to be bright for the Legion, and hopefully in later issues, it will get there again. Read Full Review

DC Comics News - Matthew Lloyd
Nov 17, 2019Despite being an avowed dissenter of rebooting the Legion of Super-Heroes again, I entered this new #1 with a bit of hope, believing that some of the promise seen in Superman #14 & #15 might pay off. Unfortunately, Legion of Super-Heroes #1 reads like a mess. Instead of building on any characters or concepts, more ideas are introduced. Bendis has already proven he can channel some classic Brainiac as was seen in Superman #15, yet none of this comes through in this first issue. The Legion were hardly seen in Millennium, and unfortunately, this issue feels more disappointing. There's not a lot in this abysmal issue to bring the reader back for issue #2. Read Full Review
