I'm pretty tickled by this. I know we barely know anything so far about these members, this team, this world, this universe. But so far this 'feels' like a Legion book. Its already been leaked that Robin will be joining the Legion, and the moment Superboy learns that there is a Planet Gotham in this future era, its easy to see how this is going to come about. So why, at the end of the day, does Legion of Super-Heroes #2 seem so disposable, so without stakes? Is it because it takes place in the far future, away from the DCU proper? Is it because of the two-week delay? Is it because of rumors that Jon Kent will be taking over as Superman in the mysterious 5G event in 2021? Or is it merely because it falls into the trap of Bendis team books at Marvel, where every character sounds the same and has a default of mildly clever? Whatever the reason, its a perfectly fine comic, as long as the reader is expecting something ephemeral like cotton candy rather than something substantial like steak and eggs. Read Full Review

I'm a huge Legion fan and always will be and I'm enjoying this book a lot with the two main issues we have so far, plus the setup from Rose's storyline. But at the same time, this is a very chaotic way to introduce such a large and broad concept as it needs actual exposition, not just a barrage of hip dialogue from the 31st century and way too many instances of the gang ignoring Jon and his questions because they haven't given him a chance to look at his orientation yet. I'm all in with the book, even if the stinger at the end makes me cringe with what Jon is going to do next, but I really hope it finds a better balance soon so that we can start connecting with these characters as they're going to be just name plaques and colorful costumes otherwise. If there is any property where Bendis' tendency to have characters talk at each other could spiral out of control, it's the one with a cast of thousands, as in Legion of Super-Heroes #2. All in all, this has been a very fun start to the new Legion series and I really hope new and long time fans are giving it a try. It’s still early going in the story, but it feels like something big is just around the corner, and I can’t wait to see what it is. Read Full Review

All in all, Legion of Super-Heroes #2 continues to build upon the foundation begun in the first entry. The up-tempo brightness of this book is a pleasure to experience. They examine the Trident. The Legion then regroups and try to figure out the next step. Then Superman makes a decision. He decides that he needs some help. So he decides to go see the Damian Wayne Robin. And that is where the issue ends. I loved the ending to be honest. It is the best part of this.The art again is the really just awesome. The writing gets a little too cute and jokey for my tastes. It is a little boring to be honest, but again it does have a cute ending. Maybe it'll pick up but this could have been stronger than it is. In the final analysis,Legion of Super-Heroes #2 is a gorgeous, visually sumptuous book with some of the most eye-popping art on the racks today. But that can't disguise the fact that there are some serious fundamental issues beneath that shiny hood. Bendis needs to choose whether or not this is a Legion book or a Legion book told from Superboy's perspective. Trying to have it both ways, and filling the chasm between the two perspectives with vapid filler dialogue, is going to sink what should be a major book and reduce it to being "just another Bendis comic." I found myself enjoying this second issue.  The dialogue was less painful and despite the lack of an orientation presentation on the 31st Century, I nonetheless did learn more about the future. The only demonstrably frustrating occurrence happened on the last page.  What this comic does not need is a bat-sidekick-distraction premised more on fear of lack of sales than on actual story progression.   My ‘Frichtman tag' says Comic Boom and while I may never eat an alien meal in ‘Heaven', I know the joy of interpreting ‘Bendis' while sipping Corona.      Read Full Review

Honestly, if you want to read an excellent Legion of Super-Heroes-style comic then go purchase Jonathan Hickman's X-Men and some of the X-Men franchise titles like X-Force and New Mutants. What Hickman is doing with the X-Men franchise is really just a Legion story. Hickman is delivering a detailed and complex story that is set in a detailed universe. Hickman is juggling numerous plot lines and a huge roster of characters with excellent chemistry. You know, maybe DC should just reach out to Hickman and see if he would be willing to take over the Legion of Super-Heroes franchise. Read Full Review

There is a ton of potential here, if only BMB could get out of his own way. He's too eager to do everything at once, and we aren't really getting to know anyone as a result. I sort of wish he had started with the origin of the Legion, even if I get that he didn't want to cover that ground again. And we don't need Damian so soon, even if the Super-Sons are just that cool.

I just felt sad, confused, and disappointed while reading this. At least the ginormous cast seems to be splitting up... Bendis can't seem to handle all of these characters in 20 some pages.

Bendis grows like a bloody tumor, eating healthy cells of DC. First he took Superman and turned his series into something he would like, instead of embracing the character's personality and legacy. Then he took Young Justice, and to this day, did nothing interesting with them. Then he took Superboy, rapid aged him just because Legion comics were planned. And now, he took Robin as well, continuing his reinventionist stay at DC. I fear what he may do to Damian now. Super Sons won't work, when one of the titular characters is a young adult, and the other still a kid. Legion doesn't work either, being boring and unappealing, despite genuinely good art featured in this book. It's just yet another typical Bendis soap opera with a big name, that f ails to deliver what is expected from a title with such a big name. Skip it, there's not much value to be found here, unless you buy these comics to stare at Saturn Girl. more

Superboy and the Legion of Interchangeable Characters Who Stand Around In Groups Speaking With A Single Voice. And I want to say I am baffled by the "Frichman tag" thing. Those tags are super useful for character ID in a comic with a cast this size, and it was a cute meta idea to say that they actually exist and the characters can see them. I'm totally on board with that. But then why the fuuuu would you constantly turn them around and cover them up and ruin their utility?!?

Superboy is as uninterested in learning about the Legion as Bendis is in writing the Legion. I have no clue who most of these characters are or why I should care about them. Bendis couldn't handle a team book with seven characters in Young Justice, why give him a book with dozens of characters? I'm only reading this because as Bendis assimilates more and more of DC, he'll make this required reading.

Prelude: Bendis didn't get off to much of a good start in the first issue of Legion of Super-Heroes. Let's see if he can turn that around. The Good: The worldbuilding is a tad interesting. Sook's art is pretty good here. The Bad: Wow, everyone still sounds the exact same. Speaking of... Bendis-Speak. That cliffhanger is... stupid. Conclusion: Wow. That somehow got worse. I'm holding out for some improvement but the quality really dropped from Bendis' side of things.

I had to stop reading 3 pages in because the cringe was unbearable. Getting through the entire issue was a chore. At first I thought a new Legion book would be great, but if this is where it’s going I’d rather there was none. Quoting Rose Forrest, I’d like to tell the author “I don’t see the excuse for stupid, childish, €&@$ other than you just want to”. Because that’s what this is: stupid, childish, €&@$, and not even in a fun way. I fear for the future of the Super Sons.
