This wasnt the strongest issue of Justice League, but even an average JL issue is still entertaining. Snyder has stated some big things are in the works for Justice League and for Hawkgirl in particular this seems teased here. Even though this was a dialog heavy issue, I still felt deeply engaged. Sure the idea of another hidden secret history might not sit well with some fans, but if you did not mind it, then this issue will have on the edge of your seat. The arc on Thanagar Prime was densely packed but did not overstay its welcome. A great little arc that delivered more meaningful storytelling than the drawn out and clumsy "Drowned Earth." It is clear that Justice League is back on track and feels like an "event book" again. While the far reaches of the storytelling may be a lot for some to handle, and the retcons fairly substantial, overall this comic is a lynchpin in DC's lineup and a must-read for anyone who has a DC comic on their pull list. I enjoyed this issue as a whole. Despite loving the art, the transition between Segovia and Cheung was massive given the two have entirely different styles. There isn't even any effort to mask the transition and provide a seamless change, which is quite odd. In short – the issue isn't accessible, which speaks toSnyder and Tynion's skills – or lack thereof – as writers. They don't do much to help their readers with these references – either because they lacked space or they didn't see the need. Either way, it's a deficit within the script. Snyder and Tynion have some crazy big ideas going on in this issue, but most are left to be explained later...with a lot of what we've already got in this series.  The art felt rushed in this issue and while I am still interested in the big picture, I need some answers soon to keep recommending this.  I'm still on board but I'm starting to wonder if it's for the creative team more than for the story they are telling in the here and now. The art is pretty good. The colors are great. Jim Cheung is the star here. Starman is now a favorite of mine just because of his art. I still love this series. I have no idea what that revelation means for Martian Manhunter, though.

There were a lot revelations here, especially Thanagar Prime being an illusion and the past about Martian Manhunter. Some seem familiar like it was told before, the end though, it's exhilarating.

"Don't be a poozer. Call for backup" Bit of a wordy and expository issue, but overall an enjoyable one. Starman's part really brought it home for me. I know it won't happen, but can we, maybe, move away now from the big cosmic threats and old secrets of the universe for a little bit? It's a bit tiresome. What about good old fashion Monguls or Brainiacs threatening the Earth or some other things that are not universe shattering and universe spanning. Just a thought.

THE GOOD: -The Starman scenes were alright. -I thought the J'onn scenes were good. Definitely the strongest part of this arc. THE BAD: -Really, really boring issue. I don't even know why I bother with this series anymore. I find it more sleep-inducing than entertaining. Oh well, if I ever have trouble falling asleep, I know what to read. -Meh art. Jim Cheung's nice but he only does a few pages. The rest wasn't that good. -I feel like there's interesting ideas, but executed very poorly. In the hands of another writer this could be something. -Ultimately Shayera was a weak and uninteresting villain. -I think maybe the scope of this is too big. I feel like if a Justice League writer is able to one day write a run o f down-to-earth stories focused on the members, not the galaxy or the secrets of the universe, they might actually do a great job. My favorite JL comics are JLI (the Giffen/DeMatteis run) and Identity Crisis, both doing their own versions of that. -This whole story arc just felt really lackluster to me. Its been a while since I liked an issue of this series. more

The Batman who Laughs is great so far in my opinion& his JL run is better than before he took over. Snyder just disappointed me with Gordon Batman& Metal wasn’t that great either.

While I liked his Batman, and I thought Wytches was nothing short of a masterpiece, I’m not a huge Snyder fan. Batman Who Laughs is good, not anything I’ll remember so far. I thought Metal was a hot mess. And while his JL may be better than the previous series, that is a VERY low bar. Hitch’s run was bad, but Priest’s was just garbage.

I think this is the problem I have with Snyder and Tynion IV's writing. They have these big ideas, but no idea how to explain them without giant exposition dumps. I'm enjoying Justice League Dark (written by Tynion IV) a lot more than this series because we don't get so much of that, but even that series has some pretty gnarly exposition dumps, especially the final issue of the Witching Hour.

@YourGreenMuse- You're right! I'm really loving Justice League Dark. Especially that last issue with the anthology format. I think without the art, Justice League Dark wouldn't be nearly as good though. Alvaro Martinez is a phenomenal artist. @myconius- Tynion is very hit or miss. I remember reading his Detective Comics. It seemed like every other arc was really weak, but those other ones would be much stronger.

i thoroughly enjoyed Tynion's first arc on Detective, but soon grew very bored with it after a while. i stopped getting his single issues and bought the collected editions. but thus far have yet to read them or even want to.

i can't get through a re-read of his first Batman/TMNT crossover. maybe it's because of how awful the second one was. the giant Bane mask on the statue of liberty!!! 😆😆😆😆😆😆

@ohhaimark the horror and magical aspects of JL Dark are just more interesting than the... eighth universe changing calamity in JL. One of my favorite things written by Tynion is Constantine: The Hellblazer. I think he just does magic/horror well. And the art is amazing, yes. And that last issue was the best one yet!

@myconius his Detective run certainly had its ups and downs. Anything regarding Spoiler and Brother Eye and all that was just really bad to me. I hate Spoiler for how she was written there.

@YourGreenMuse- Totally! I've never read Tynion's Constantine, but I want to now! I totally agree, Spoiler was a weak character, and that Brother Eye storyline was just dull and uninteresting. I actually think the best arc of that was the magic-related one with Zatanna.

It's pretty short! Only 13 issues, but it's the best the character has gotten since his introduction to the DCU proper with Brightest Day.

i hate to say it, but Spoiler really should have just stayed dead after Batman: War Games. i wasn't even really thrilled with her as Batgirl. all she did was deny us more Batgirl stories with Cassandra Cain.

I totally agree about Spoiler. She was annoying in Batman& Robin Eternal, too, but actually she always is. With War Games she at least had a meaningful death.

i hate to admit this, but i really was relieved when Spoiler died in War Games. she was a terrible character. ...the only other time i was really happy to see an annoying character bite the dust was Rachel Dawes in The Dark Knight. ...if only the Joker could have shown up sooner in the series and saved us from having to sit through more of her screen time.
