This series took a little getting used to compared to the lighter JSA run by Johns, with its denser tone and higher stakes, but it's really grown with every issue, pulling in some compelling plot threads from the history of the JSA and giving some less-known characters an excellent spotlight. With some entertaining reveals and some well-done character drama, JSA #9 is definitely worth the read. JSA #9 was easy enough to follow without much prior knowledge, but is enhanced considerably by the context. Read Full Review

Lemire lays off the infighting and it helps JSA #9 immensely. He gives the characters some agency and it really improves the tone and feel of the issue. Like issue #4 when Obsidian got the spotlight, Beth gets it here and allowing characters to do something to move the plot really works. It's no surprise that last issue's flashback story plays into a small part to complete an idea, even if it's fairly obvious. It may not be clever, but it's solid. This issue is definitely better than most of the series with only Yolanda's self pity holding things back. Maybe I'd go 7.5/10. Read Full Review

I enjoyed it. Some great fight sequences and storytelling. Can’t believe it took 8 issues to get here.

I'm Glad that the story is finally progressing. The main piece of this issue is the battle between Savage and Dr. Mid-Nite, though I have no idea why they need her alive. She contacts the HQ and the imposter is outted. The rest of the issue about Obsidian caught in the maze of his mind is inconsequential. Nine issues of the same story is too much. Though it appears that they are dropping most of the older characters and focusing on the new ones. Yolanda should be in jail. Not sure why her fate is still being debated.
