There is so much happening as Green Lantern starts year two, and it is all entertaining. Absolute Power is here, and GL is captive, but discover how much more there is to the man besides his ring. Watch how the JSA stands against Jadestone, and don't forget the threat of Thaaros and the United Planets! Jeremy Adams continues to demonstrate why he is probably DC's best writer currently. He knows how to connect his stories to the current and historical DC Universe and come up with unique and intriguing plot elements to push the book forward. He's on his way to making Green Lantern as great a book as his run on The Flash. The art is fantastic and he's able to jump over the obstacles DC throws at him with their poorly timed events. Ok lets get the worse out of the way first. The Sorrow Lanterns concept was rushed and the Absolute Power stuff was ok but clearly something editorial forced on Jeremy. I really enjoyed all the Hal parts. Art was a slight step down though. All in all for a tie-in this was really good. Usually they are terrible but this one continues the mainline story and also does its job as a tie in. Pushes the event forward. The back-up was another good back-up. It was nice seeing some of the mindset and background of the Thaaros. Patient and Cunning. So many evil characters are just cunning or strong ect, but it is good to see the classic 'revenge is a dish best served cold' type of villain again. It feels like it has been a while since I have seen o ne. Also frankly based on the story, this guy is actually pulling it off. Like as far as villains go, he has won against the 'good guys' quite a lot. He is clearly a threat and I wouldn't mind seeing more of him in the future if this arc ends well. more

Probably my least favorite issue of the series thus far, but it was far from bad. I liked the Hal story that started things off and even the Jessica story that followed, but it felt like things took a left turn afterwards. I don't mean to say that the short stories about Sinestro, Alan & the JSA, etc. were bad, but they just felt thrown in as filler before getting back to Hal at the end. Either way, I liked it for what it was. The backup wasn't bad, either. Thaaros's origin was certainly interesting, to say the least.

This was a dip in quality from Jeremy. I would have liked to have seen Carol in this issue. Taking a punch like that from Shark without powers would have broken his neck and his jaw. Then literrally jumping the shark with a headbutt that knocked him out? Cmon. Shark weighs a ton and again...without powers Hal drags him and picks Shark up to put him in the energy field. Wow. After all that we get the Sorrow ring, which is not the best idea. Sorry, Jeremy. Let's hope it gets back on track next issue. Can we drop the backup story. It's not needed in the least. More late night Absolute Power, Green Lantern 13 was a mixed bag - the Hal Jordan stuff was great … but so many other plots kept pulling away from Hal and the shark guy (Karshon?). No clue why Hal doesn’t seem to have his ring but it didn’t hurt the story one way or the other. I always liked Jessica Cruz as a Lantern from the Rebirth stuff … but her story left me a bit confused. There was more Absolute Power stuff with what seemed like Infinity Inc … but then we cut to some dude named Sorrow followed by an alien called Thaaros. Seeing as this was a tie-in, I would expect the writer to better introduce things to a new reader. But all that aside - I would softly recommend this as a good addition to the overall Absolute Power sto ry, though I’m pretty sure it won’t have a huge impact. more

Although I enjoyed Hal's scene in this issue, a glaring issue with the current run has become too significant to overlook: Hal appears on merely a quarter of the pages. It frustrated me and keeps frustrating me that we only get one book of Hal per month, ONE BOOK, yet it is not entirely focused on Hal. Meanwhile the other Green Lantern book, War Journal, is completely dedicated to John Stewart. Buying Hal's book, I am compelled to tolerate Jo Mullein, Jessica Cruz, Kyle Rayner, the fxxking stupid Teen Lantern, and now JSA, whose storylines do not contribute to the protagonist of the book. These characters have become a hindrance in my reading experience. And the sorrow lantern is just a bad idea. The continual arrival of new lanterns has become redundant and exhausting. Come on, It's a big universe, with countless things to explore. It's better to leave the emotional spectrum alone before it become repetitive and draining. Additionally, Adams may need to reconsider: does he truly wish to make a man sharing the same surname as Hal's co-creator a villain? I rate this issue a 2.5 as it is a quarter of the total 10. more
