Future State: Gotham #1 is a nice start to the return to the future. It's a world and story that I wanted to see more of. While it doesn't have the colorful pop of its basis, it brings something new and different as well. It digs its roots into the manga that clearly influenced the previous stories and does it well. The use of black and white in both stories gives a nice cohesion to the issue. The A story uses a minimalist design, while the B story is filled with tight, detailed drawings. Both styles are fun to look at and capture the tone of their individual tales. Read Full Review

If you have a craving for more Future State Gotham, I guess this book is for you.  I enjoyed the manga-like presentation, but mostly I was bored.  Nothing here made me glad to revisit an event that I already left behind, no matter how hard DC tries to make me. Read Full Review

This is a fine book. It didn't excite me as much as I hoped it did, there was a lot of setup and not a lot of payoff (I know it's issue #1, but there's still such a thing as too much setup at once), and it really requires you to have read other Future State books before this. Read Full Review

I do not like Future State but it is what DC insists on however I liked this story, Jason reaching the ultimate consequences to infiltrate, again being unfairly attacked as he is sacrificing everything to unmask the Magistrate. Art is horrible and it greatly detracts from this issue.

The general concept is good, although its development tends to fail. Art is bad, but I love this character and if in this place his favorite characters are overrated, why shouldn't I?

The first story is really interesting though if my suspicion of who Jason is working with turns out to be true they'll have to really sell me on that one otherwise he's pretty gullible. The second story drags the issue down, there was really no need for it.

I cant do it Merlyn. As soon as I see Future State I'm not interested. You're far more patient with this. It's funny as if right now the critic and user reviews are almost the same for this when usually the critic ones are much higher.

Second story is from 1996! What were they thinking? They put it in because it's the creator of Akira, but it makes no sense to be in this and is only to charge an extra dollar...ridiculous!!!

This was standard price $3.99. Twenty two page story, 2 pinup pages, 8 page backup, and no ad or promo pages. I don't expect future issues will be similarly sized but we'll see.

It's DC's attempt to make this more of a manga-style book. The backup is an older story by the creator of Akira which pushes the manga feel as well.

I really wish this book didn't have a manga style, it could've been so much better. The story is pretty strong and the cliffhanger leaves us to wonder whose side Red Hood is really on. Other than that, no complaints! Hope more characters show up.

Just read the Red Hood joint, because my favorite Robin was the draw to cracking open another dreaded Future State book. It was not that bad. I'll check out the next one. The story is mildly interesting, if this had been put in a summary Dark Detective made the numbers more interesting. There are mysteries that they want to discover, apparently Jason has given everything to infiltrate, not just her family, he let Rose go to protect her only alliance. Milonogiannis' art is bad enough and in black and white it turns out to be worse.

Continuing future state feels pointless. This book is a holdover of something no one has interest in anymore. With that being said the best thing this book does is keep up a brisk pace. Not many things happen here making it feel like more of a teaser than a comic but at least it's quick. Having no colors completely ruins the cyberpunk esthetic. The batfamily already have poor characterization in the short time they have in this issue and it all lacks a hook to keep me interested. Save your money and don't buy this book

Bland, dull, and uninspired with gimmicky art. Story is made for the lowest common denominator, which makes perfect sense when you look at the sock puppets giving this book 8-10s.

Garbage, nothing more to say. It was so bad that they didn't bother to use colour in the book. If I could give this book a zero I would. Any "critic" out there that gave this anything higher is either a fanboy or a shill on the take.

It's set up to be more of a manga is why there is no color. I didn't like it much at all, but with a backup by the creator of Akira, it is pretty obvious that it's more than just not bothering to color it. They still didn't do a good job, but you have to at least try to see what they were attempting...they failed, but still...
