Purely subjective but I hate the covers for this run. Looks like a DC cosplay calendar.

But Why Tho? - William J. Jackson
Jan 18, 2022It is creepy good storytelling accented by Blanco's strong art, Bellaire's moody colors, and Leigh's expert lettering. And I think Detective Comics has gone into permanent Halloween. Read Full Review

Jan 18, 2022he story continues to flash back and forth between different time periods, but it's a highly compelling story about mental health that is pitting the Bats against a villain they can't punch. Given what we know about the ending, it feels like a dark march towards something terrifying. Read Full Review

Jan 18, 2022Detective Comics #1049 remains at a high level of quality as the mystery unfolds a bit with interesting developments. The art on both stories from Ivan Reis, Danny Miki and Fernando Blanco is top-notch. "Shadows of the Bat" continues to be an interesting story that doesn't rely on "even hype" as it's strongest element. Read Full Review

Jan 19, 2022I feel like the "shocking" reveal robbed the rest of the arc of some of its unsettling dread, as it spelled out something that most fans assumed would already come to pass. It just robs the issue of some of the wind in its sails, which is a shame because this shaping up to be a pretty good arc. Read Full Review

Jan 18, 2022"Shadows of the Bat" continues to be a mess. The creative team doesn't commit to fleshing out scenes before moving on to something else; our heroes aren't really accomplishing anything; and the story's slow pacing is seriously getting in the way of entertainment. I recommend staying away from this book, but if you really must have this story, then it's probably best to wait for the trade, as you'll likely be able to get that with a nice discount somewhere. So far, I really don't think this is worth your time and money. Read Full Review
