"City of Bane" continues! Bane has taken over Gotham City, and Batman is nowhere to be found. At least, not a Batman anyone recognizes. Flashpoint Batman is now patrolling the city, dispensing a violent brand of justice and taking out rogue villains who haven't yet signed on with Bane. It's all building to a rebellion among the bad guys who don't want to play along- and distrust in those who do! Meanwhile, a surprising ally has come to Bruce Wayne's aid, nursing him back to health so that he can get back to his city.

Tom King plans on ending his Batman run with a bang and Batman #76 is adding gasoline to that fire. The writing, story, pacing, and art are top notch. I can only think of two more words to describe my reaction to this issue. Hell yeah. Read Full Review

This story is unfolding much differently than I thought it might. But I like that. King and Daniel work great here and it's just thrilling. The end of the issue really raises the stakes too. This is another fine chapter of this excellent comic. It's unlike any Batman story that has come before it. And I love that. Read Full Review

While King seemed ago drag out other storylines the pacing on City of Bane so far has been on point as he gives just enough information to keep readers hooked as he unfolds whats so far been an epic finale to his Batman run. Read Full Review

The good news is having Batman swoop in and kick some ass after getting knocked down is basically a guaranteed win. So a respectable finale is almost guaranteed as long as the story doesn't get too ambitious. Read Full Review

If #75 was too narrow, #76 is open exactly wide enough. There's a lot revealed in the tight narratives in the issue and you'll want to carefully read every expression and every word on every page. Read Full Review

Again, the artwork alone is worth the price of admission for Batman #76! That cover -remember when you first saw Batman broken by Bane" are we in the midst of another crippled Batman? Or is he out for the count and another of his Robins will assume the mantle? This story is like shoving an octopus into a bag. There are so many ways it can go and you can never be sure. Kudos to Tony Daniel's art, but also Tom King has penned a special series! Read Full Review

Tom King's run is extremely flawed, and while I'm not ignoring that, I don't want to take away from the quality of this issue alone. Batman #76 is a high-energy issue where King abandons many of the bad habits that I've spent years complaining about! Does it undo the shortcomings that have preceded this? No, but it definitely deserves praise for what it does well, and there are many things to praise here between King's script and (especially) Tony Daniel and Tomeu Morey's art. Read Full Review

Comic Book Revolution - Kevin Lainez

Batman #76 does a fine job putting over the current status quo in Gotham City. Though the no show of Bane is disappointing, Tom King does a great job writing Flashpoint Batman and Gotham Girl as the new Dynamic Duo. The new world order that they have created is amplified by the way Robin, Captain Atom and other heroes and villains react to their presence. All of this builds anticipation for how things will go down once Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle make it back to Gotham City. Read Full Review

Batman #76 makes for a fun, but disjointed reading experience. It does a good job on depicting the fringe benefits and pitfalls of Bane's domination. But it also jerks readers around from scene to scene with little finesse at times and has unnecessary Catwoman filler pages. Overall, the comic is an okay read with some storytelling flaws in it. Those scenes are when King is at his best as a writer. Finding the small moments of humanity within an others superpowered world. Here it is a quiet moment between Catwoman and an ailing Batwoman as she speaks to the merits of an infamous painting by Vermeer. Within that conversation is what could be the key force of this entire epic-finding beauty in the mundane. In a medium filled with great works about astronomical feats perhaps it is within the quiet everyday moments we can find something new. As we have seen some may want something different from their Batman title. Ultimately comics are better when creators take chances because even a failed chance is more valuable than a predictable success. Read Full Review

The pacing in Batman #76 is a bit odd, but it's definitely not a bad story by any means. The writing is solid and the art is stellar. It just didn't feel like very much had transpired in this issue. If you haven't read/stopped reading Batman and want to read it, I'd start with issue #75 first. Read Full Review

    But Why Tho? - CJ

    Aug 07, 2019

Batman #76 is an extremely conflicting issue; the stellar artwork is hampered by a plodding, aimless script. Comics are a team effort and everyone should be bringing their A-Game to the table. If even one element is off, it can affect the entire issue. Good art can only carry you so far and I hope that King picks up the pace in future issues. Read Full Review

Tom King gives us a glorified filler issue where we reinforce the ideas that the reader already knew about. If you read the issue before this, you have a pretty solid idea of everything that is happening in this issue. It's redundant and lazy. However, the scenes that we do get aren't bad by any means. They are simply inconsequential at the current moment. Perhaps the future will show that these scenes mattered, but we don't give an issue credit for what MIGHT happen. Read Full Review

The art was very well done in this issue with some of my favorite pages being of Thomas Wayne, I mean the man is just an absolute unit. So yeah, its kind of disappointing that the only good thing about this issue took me 2 sentences to say. I mean Im sure I could go on more about the art but whats really the point? This issue is just as terrible as the last. Im giving this issue 1 star. Trust me if I thought giving it no stars would matter much I would but I mean Thomas looked cool. Right? Read Full Review
