Batman #70 is a great read and I'm looking forward to the next issue! Although Batman didn't run across Bane at all in this issue, Batman made a statement with the bodies he leaves broken in Arkham Asylum! Batman even mocks Bane along the way, noting that with everything that he's been through in his life as Batman"the best Bane could do was come up with mind games? I'm definitely looking forward to the final confrontation between Batman and Bane! Read Full Review

Everything from plotting, pacing, art, and psychology steamrolls through this issue. As the new arc begins, detractors of the previous 'Knightmares' arc should get a lot of satisfaction as King switches gears and moves through a different kind of narrative. Some will call this typical Bat-god, some will draw comparisons with the way a man named Frank once wrote the character. Whichever side you fall on this is a brutal, behemoth of an issue. Another great Batman book that is again hampered by having too many teams. Is it too much to ask for a singular vision in one 20 page book? Other than that, this is a perfectly written conclusion to a unique arc. This Batman book has been one if the DC titles to look out for and the recent Eisner nomination, for Tom King's work on this series, is well deserved. Read Full Review

    Sequential Planet - Ethan Maddux

This issue feels like a return to form for Batman. While Knightmares had good individual issues, it ultimately felt like it killed the pacing of the book. This issue makes it all feel worth it though, by focusing on what King does best. He says a lot with a little and gives you something to think about rather than handing you all the answers on a platter. Plus, it's fun to watch Batman punch people. Read Full Review

By the end of the issue, it's clear that #70 is a pivot point. It's a close to the events of “Knightmare” and an entry point back into the main events of this war between Batman and Bane that's been taking place from the earliest issues of this series. Read Full Review

Ive always disagreed with the notion that Batman is some crimefighting engine that is fueled by his personal demons and pain. I think that there is mounting evidence that Tom King agrees with me. I enjoyed this issue and Im looking forward to seeing things go from bad to worse. I think that it is worth pointing out that we are nearing the three-quarters mark in Tom Kings proclaimed one hundred issue story arc and I think it is pretty clear that things are about to go from bad to worse. Batman #70 was an excellent return to form for Tom King's incredible run on this series. King used the consequences of the "Knightmares" story arc perfectly to give major weight to what happened in this first chapter of "The Fall and the Fallen." It was incredible to just see how in a place as dangerous as Arkham Asylum that Batman was the most frightening person there. Where "The Fall and the Fallen" goes from here is anyone's guess. Whatever does happen next King has made sure that fans should be very excited for what comes next in Batman. Read Full Review

Bravo to Mikel Janin and Jorge Fornes for delivering a real page turner. This is probably the best that Janin's work has ever looked and even the transition from him to fornes' more David Mazzuchelli-inspired lines and inks works well for the book. Read Full Review

80 years of Batman have had their ups and downs. At different times the character was going to be cancelled, but something has always happened to keep us fans on our toes and brought the Dark Knight back into prominence. This tale is one of the characters high points in terms of suspense building, a rogues gallery homage, and noir style mystery that keeps us guessing. This issue concludes with the same inmate that opened the tale. This time quoting another classic poem! To be continued. ***1/2 (8.9 rating) Read Full Review

The Knightmares are over, but if you're looking for story progression, you may have to wait a little bit longer.  We do get Batman talking at a lot of villains and then punching them.  If that's your thing, have at it.  This is not my thing.  On a positive note, I liked the art.
