I had my doubts about the Bendis takeover. But the Leviathan arc is impressing me, and I'm really wanting more Lois and Clark as reporter-heroes. I have a feeling we'll get it. Also, I'm stoked to see the final showdown between Superman and Leviathan, or Clark and Leviathan. Time will tell. Read Full Review

I'm really enjoying this arc as Bendis has concocted a challenging scenario for Superman and his allies. The only thing that's missing at this point is a greater sense of the Leviathan impact throughout the rest of the DC titles. Bendis and Epting deliver an excellent, fast-paced story with ACTION COMICS #1010! Bendis' writing is great, although the fact that Clark keeps disregarding his secret identity is troublesome. This issue is uneven at best. While it has great art and exciting concepts, it doesn't move the plot along very far and the details are given short shrift. Perhaps, the most interesting ideas are left on the floor while the plot inches forward. The razzle dazzle distract for a bit, but at least it looks nice. Read Full Review

With beautiful art this issue accomplishes........ pretty much nothing.  Beautiful art though..... really.  There really isn't much to say about this issue besides if you were really looking forward to a page dedicated to having a look at Clark and Lois' undercover identities' back story....... Action Comics #1010 is a strange beast. Its tonally all over the place, but its still a crucial issue with a lot happening. The way it jarringly shifts from deadly serious to light-hearted hurts it a lot. It feels like Bendis couldnt decide what he wanted the book to be, so he kept changing it around, maybe hoping that the lighter moments would make up for the darker ones. While the lighter moments are entertaining, they feel almost like an affectation, and that takes away from the book. The art team turns in some dynamite work, though, and that helps a lot. All in all, this would be a better comic if Bendis could pick a tone and stick to it. As it is, this one never feels as important as it should. Read Full Review

The comic gets serious and even mysterious as Leviathan takes down all the secret government agencies and terrorist organisations while Lois and Jimmy deliver comedic reliefs for the whole issue. Waller is Waller. Director Bones that poor fella, didn't expect that part at all. I guess we will know what happened to him. There were quite a lot of Superman moments here, which I absolutely loved.

"Who gives a @#$@ about a narrative?" This issue was just what I needed. After the Double D (disappointing and depressing) that was Heroes in Crisis this week, this issue was the perfect remedy. It's lighthearted, a bit cheesy a times and the idea of Supes being undercover is just so wonderfully bonkers, even though it was shortlived. A quick read with some nice visuals. Definitely worth checking out.

Middle-of-the road issue, nothing really noteworthy happens or is worth mentioning from the pages. Does make me want to read what happens next and most of the dialogue is devoted to how Lois Lane likes undercover work. I would not buy it or recommend it, but if it’s your thing go for it I guess. As it’s just a forgettable issue it’s on the higher end of the quality scale of bendis’ writing. One thing that just struck was as odd is it names Kate Kane (Batwoman) as director of Spyral, just what? He got the wrong Batwoman here and I not surprised as the man cares not for continuity. Bones might have also been axed but that does little to change anything.

Could we get a move on here? I know this says part four, but I feel like it's been going on for at least a three years now. We have plenty of page space to dedicate to Lois musing about undercover work and a random Checkmate callback, but not enough for actual plot. I'm sure this won't be as annoying in trade, but when I'm waiting month to month and I just want to be done with this storyline (which haha, is not going anywhere anytime soon), I get frustrated by how slow everything is. This wouldn't be as much of an issue if the character work was stronger, but it's Bendis so it's not. We just get asides and Bendis speak.

THE GOOD: -Steve Epting is a good artist. It's too bad his talent is wasted on shit issues like this. -Even I have to admit, that Checkmate page was pretty great. THE BAD: -I am not into Director Bones or his storyline whatsoever. -Ugh. I'm getting really tired of reviewing this series. It's one of the most consistent things I'm reading right now. -Yep, this is a Bendis issue. Thinks he can make a Superman issue good when well… he can't. -This dialogue is always so bad. I hate it. -Why is Jimmy so annoying? Why is Amanda Waller just so poorly written? -What even happened at the end there?
