This is a BATMAN title isn't it? I bought this to read a Batman story and maybe a bonus side story. What I got was the reverse. Yeah, the story and art were good, but without counting pages, it seemed that the Grifter story was twice as many pages. After I read the whole book and let it sink in, I felt cheated, especially at 5.99. This felt more like a preview than a real issue.
Future State: Dark Detective #1
The world thought Bruce Wayne was dead. They were dead wrong! When the sinister para-military organization known as the Magistrate seizes control of Gotham City, the original Batman went big to put them down...but even the Dark Knight couldn't predict how far this evil force would go to stop him. Now, Bruce Wayne is on the run! From Eisner Award-wi...
Better than #1, this issue drops a little more horror from different directions. So far following the cosmic horror template to a T. Hopefully they plan on throwing some twists in. Immonen's art seems almost too clean in a few panels, but gets gritty when needed. Solid enough to stay on for #3.
Plunge #2
Hill House Comics
After discovering a corpse upon the Sinnikik Atoll, Moriah Lamb leads a team to hunt for other castaways, while Gage Carpenter begins the exploration of the ghost ship Derleth. But there's something down there in the icy darkness of the Arctic sea, something that doesn't want to be found. And it isn't any safer on land. There ...
I picked up Plunge because of the concept, which after reading issue 1, spot on, good intro.
But......DILDOS? Really?? Come on, was that just because it's "Black Label"? So edgy. If you remove that scene and the following jokes, it wouldn't be missed. Unneccessary.
Plunge #1
In the aftermath of a devastating tsunami, an exploration vessel known as the Derleth begins sending an automated distress signal from a remote atoll in the Bering Strait. The only problem is that the Derleth has been missing for 40 years. Marine biologist Moriah Lamb joins the Carpenter Salvage team to recover the Derleth's dead...only to find tha...
I don't read Moon Knight, but I love Kang so I picked this up. Pretty good story, straightforward, good progression. I think stories with Kang get railroaded though and end up following the same pattern, or maybe it's time travel stories. Either way, this was enjoyable, the art was good, although Kang seemed to buff up in a few panels. I thought the building with a Kang statue at the top was quite more
Acts of Evil: Moon Knight Annual #1
MOON KNIGHT BATTLES KANG THE CONQUEROR!
KANG THE CONQUEROR has found a way to rewrite history in his own image! But when the chance to settle an ancient grudge against the Egyptian god, Khonshu, tempts Kang, the process is interrupted and time and reality quickly go haywire. Now, Khonshu's avatar, Moon Knight, must find a way to fix the time ...
The art seemed a little better in this issue, I didn't spot any cheap repeated panels. The story remains rather sophomoric though, with some feeble attempts at humor and the story clumsily jumps from one scene to another in a blink. I won't be picking up the next series.
Savage Avengers #5
• The Marrow God has eaten the sentient population of entire planets, but he never had to dance with the Savage Avengers. Kulan Gath is on the verge of defeat...or is that what he wanted the entire time?
• A Pyrrhic victory lights a fuse that will only burn more of the Marvel Universe.
• Plus, the ...
I read it. I like the art and layouts, very dynamic. The story seems overly complicated though. I feel like I need to go back and research all of the people who have worn this symbiote to understand what is going on.
Absolute Carnage: Scream #2
• Patricia Robertson may know symbiotes...but nothing could have ever prepared her for their god, KNULL!
• With Carnage building strength to call the symbiote god to Earth, Patricia must harness the power of the Scream symbiote!
• Can Scream withstand the draw of Knull, or are they doomed to be anot...
SO much better than the first issue, this read very smoothly and the art was consistent throughout. Nice gratuitous splash page of Galactus. The dialogue wasn't as sophomoric and clumsy as the first issue and I liked that the seemingly invincible Prodigal was put down by the Surfer, leading to some pent up brotherly revenge in the next issue.
The Prodigal Sun: Silver Surfer #1
Continuing Prodigal's journey home from FANTASTIC FOUR: THE PRODIGAL SUN #1, the one individual who can aid him in accomplishing it is the Silver Surfer. But Prodigal has a history with the Surfer. Witness that now as we see the Surfer, back when he was still the herald to Galactus, as Prodigal battles him to prevent Galactus from destroying an ent...
This issue made me want to drop this series, and I've been defending it since #1. The art seems to have progressively gotten worse. It's very basic, stiff, and SO many recycled poses and panels. How many times can you draw Doctor Voodoo reaching out with his "Elvis" hand? Four apparently in this book. And the exact same 3 panel sequence on consecutive pages made me go back and check to see if the more
Savage Avengers #4
• The one evil wizard to rule them all, Kulan Gath has succeeded in summoning an ancient evil...and he's already hard at work on his next terrible plan.
• Conan swings his savage symbiotic sword against the forces of darkness...
• ...and Frank Castle has the worst day of his life. (If you don't cou...
It's hard to follow. I don't mean the overall story, I mean each panel and the dialogue. It's choppy, hyperactive. It sounds like a 40 year old trying to write teenage dialogue. But it's like, like OMG!, so hard to follow. The art is fantastic, I really like it for the big splash pages as well as the little details like the reflections in Naomi's eyes. I didn't get why Naomi and Zumbado were havin more
Naomi #6
This is it, the end of the first season of NAOMI by the breakout collaboration of writers Brian Michael Bendis and David F. Walker and artist Jamal Campbell! With her origins finally revealed, Naomi embraces the journey ahead and charts a course for the future and her role.
RATED T+
FINAL ISSUE
I was excited to read this, Peter David writing sounded like a safe bet. Once I started reading though, it was goofy. Lame jokes and clunky interactions between characters. The whole thing felt rushed. It sort of got good towards the climax scenes, where it got a little more serious, but then the FF are just like, "sure stranger, you can have OUR space ship". Hopefully it gets a little more serio more
The Prodigal Sun: Fantastic Four #1
CHAPTER 1 OF 3! The first of three interconnected special issues featuring the FANTASTIC FOUR, the SILVER SURFER and the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY! Introducing PRODIGAL, a strange alien being who has crash-landed in the Savage Land. When he becomes worshipped by a race of swamp-dwelling barbarians, Ka-Zar and Shanna call upon the Fantastic Four to ai...
Excellent conclusion to the Koga Thun story. After a nice Goonie's nod, Conan comes face to face with the wizard, lots of decapitation. There's an awesome splash page at the end, the art style is very sketchy, takes some getting used to, but ends up working. Can't wait for the next arc.
Savage Sword of Conan #5
• The mystery of the magical treasure finally revealed!
• It's now or never, and CONAN must make a choice that will determine the fate of Stygia!
• Either way, KOGA THUN will not let the Barbarian go without a fight!
• Plus: The next chapter in the all-new CONAN novella, "The Sha...
I'm liking this. Mysterio is the perfect bumbling villain. I like his sad attempts at becoming relevant. Really looking forward to what happens next and the addition of Electro.
Symbiote Spider-Man #2
• Set during the original ALIEN COSTUME SAGA - before Peter learned of the symbiote suit's true nature - comes the second installment of this all-new tale from comic legends Peter David and Greg Land!
• Mysterio, after swallowing another loss against Spider-Man, has sworn vengeance upon the web-slinger! Recruiting anot...
I jumped on all three Conan titles, this one is definitely the weakest. It's not bad, it's not good, its a clumsy in between. The dialogue is stiff, the art is mediocre at best, the panels and flow are clunky. This issue is supposed to be Belit's coming of age in a sense, but it reads like a rough draft, sort of choppy, and the outcome is anti-climatic. It made little sense. I will probably drop t more
Age of Conan: Belit #3
• BÊLIT has a plan to extort the rich cities along the coast...
• ...but as she makes her name in the Hyborian Age, is she leading herself to a watery grave?
• And who is the mysterious observer who is tracking her?
• PLUS: Part 3 of an all-new Bêlit novella, "Bone Whis...
Being a visual person, the mish mosh of artists and styles took away from the story. The concept is cool and I got a little tense when the kids were just about to look at the phone. Hopefully the plan for the next issue is to solidify a single artist and style, so I can enjoy the story.
DCeased #1
"I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was Death, and Hades was following close behind him."-Revelation 6:8
A mysterious techno-virus has been released on Earth, infecting 600 million people and turning them instantly into violent, monstrous engines of destruction.
The heroes of the DCU are caught completely unpr...
6.5 only because I didn't know this was an anthology. I was stoked for the Daredevil/Heimdall story, its a cool concept and sounded important. The shortness of the story left me kind of wondering what happened. Plus, I'm starting to think that Jason Aaron has been scarred religiously, his constant theme of unworthy, false Gods is sounding like a personal grudge. The next couple of stories switched more

Find out in a story by Jason Aaron & Andrea Sorrentino! All this and more (including a new Howard the Duck story by Chip Zda...
If this was a Roz Solomon book I would give it a higher rating, but its not, its Thor minus Thor. Aaron is still pushing the "unworthy" theme, I really hope that somewhere in the near future he regains his status in a big way and his book can finally be about him again. Roz gets things going quick, she's inducted into the new double secret Agents of Wakanda, then promptly jumps right into the midd more
Thor #9
MEET EARTH'S NEWEST DEFENDER: ROZ SOLOMON!
With S.H.I.E.L.D. gone, Roz Solomon has been left adrift in a world full of homeless gods and mislaid hammers. Now this Asgardian ally is about to take on a surprising new role - and make a million new enemies. For the War of the Realms is coming...and the invasion of Earth may have already begun. Cue...
I've never read a Green Lantern book. I picked this up out of curiosity, and because Morrison was the writer. It was like jumping off the high dive for the first time; a huge splash, then some disorientation while I figured out which way was up. The art grabbed my attention at the beginning, the style is definitely a throwback and gave me a lot to look at. Then I started getting the hang of the "f more
