    AIPT - David Brooke

There's very little to complain about in X-Men #18. It's filled with Wolverine action, offers an interesting problem surrounding the immortality of mutants when unexpected wrinkles arise and delivers some team-based action too. Read Full Review

My biggest concern within X-Men #18 was the cliffhanging last page involving a Summers (which I cant talk about without spoiling anything) AND the depiction of the X-Terminators as this group of teenage girls, which they arent. But otherwise, X-Men #18 had a purpose in clearing the air and at the end of the day it succeed in that objective. Duggans run has taken an upward trajectory since the Annual, but theres still some things that just stick in my craw, like the lack of development of Firestar. Overall a decent issue, and the ending has me excited to see where we go with the upcoming Brood saga. Villas a welcome addition to this issue, and I cant wait to see what he does next. Gerry Duggan's signature banter and humor are on display, and C.F. Villa and Matt Milla provide visuals in the style of, if not on the same level, as the X-line defining team of Pepe Larraz and Marte Gracia. Read Full Review

A perfectly enjoyable issue of the X-Men, with some great character moments and some cool action, completely brushes aside the era-disrupting implications of the two Lauras. Read Full Review

Comic Book Revolution - Kevin Lainez

    Jan 11, 2023

X-Men #18 does well in tying up some loose ends with the latest Vault storyline. The meeting between the two Laura Kinney's was handled well with seeds planted for a greater story involving the older version. The transition to how X-Men will crossover with Captain Marvel does create an instant connection with the character that appears at the end who facilitates the crossover. Read Full Review

You Don't Read Comics - David Harth

    Jan 28, 2023

X-Men #18 is another issue that would be a total fail without the art. However, thats basically X-Men since Duggan took over, so theres no surprise there. The dialogue is mostly terrible, the plots are mediocre, and the humor is bad. Luckily, Villa and Milla do a really fantastic job with the art. Reading this book is a groan-inducing chore, but looking at the art is pretty great. Read Full Review

Wow! Fantastic issue! As I was reading this I couldn't help but to consider all the possible scenarios that might play out which I a sign of a good story. I loved seeing the original Laura come back and be with synch as the original story of her sacrificing herself so synch could escape after they had fell in love was heartbreaking. The end of this issue also had a cliffhanger that I'm very excited about. I buy every xmen title and very rarely drop one butbi did drop xterminators (which was hard for me as I'm a huge fan of all the wolverine family) and reading some of these reviews I had some trepidation about this issue going in. In my opinion the xterminators part of this story worked though as it was Laura needing to speak to her clone. more

Another excellent X-Men issue from Duggan. This one features the two Laura's and how they go about coexisting. The resurrection protocols are one of the most interesting concepts from Hickman's run and I love how Duggan deals with the complexities of it here. Mainly the conundrum of what to do if a mutant has been prematurely resurrected.

A good solid issue with a hook beyond "arbitrary combat encounter" (and when it gets one it's an X-Terminators appearance, which does basically obligate the ol' ultraviolence) and some really wonderful art from CF Villa. "What happens when you resurrect somebody who's not dead?" is the most interesting question this book has posited in a while (if ever), and I appreciate the genuine uncertainty over whether the X-Men's due diligence wasn't enough or whether Hank is just gratuitously cynical these days. Between the last couple of issues and the Dark Web mini, Duggan is really on a roll lately

While I was a fan of the story in this issue, I'm a bit mixed on it being in this issue. Yes, I get that Synch is on the current team and that Laura is his love interest and they found her a couple issues ago and all of that. However, Laura and Wolverine aren't on the current team and this issue was primarily about them. Despite that, I'm not really sure where else this could have taken place. So, I'm not upset about it by any means and it's completely understandable. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed this book and I thought the inevitable interaction between Laura and Wolverine was handled well.

The X-terminators was one of the worst non-sense I read this year. So that team showing up here just ruined this book which had a good 2 Lauras story to tell.

The obligatory Laura/Laura conversation comes off well, and the whole book has some juicy art. (Although...Synch and Old Laura's outfits...yikes.) But that conversation doesn't nearly fill the whole issue, so the author goes poking through other contemporary titles' toyboxes to fill up the space. X-Terminators, X-Force, even Captain Marvel. I count the first two as decent continuity links, but the 3rd is a plot-rip of the crassest sort. (Unless the authors plan to tie the threads together in future issues).

I literally put the last arc on my 2022 best of list. Then all of a sudden this issue comes out and it's comic booky in the worst way. Can I say how much I hate reading the name Wolverine and in the same book, it could mean three people? And that's not even my issue. The book went from intense and interesting to silly. I hope it's a one off problem, or I'd quit reading.
