Comics: The Gathering - Nick Devonald

There hasn’t been a bad issue in this run on Thor. A phenomenal creative team of Cates, Klein and Wilson make this epic series a must have. Cliffhanger endings keep me on tenterhooks between issues. A level of intricately detailed artwork and rich colours which defy belief. An instant classic. Read Full Review

Beyond The Panel - Jideobi Odunze

    Mar 11, 2020

With each issue, this book continues to keep you at the edge of your seat. I don't know if this would be categorized as Thor's greatest enemy yet, but it is certainly one which has left him more vulnerable than he has been since the time he was unworthy. Overall, Thor #4 served as a perfect set-up for what is to come when the sacrifices to get to this point can't be in vain for the God of Thunder. Read Full Review

Thor #4 was another fantastic issue by Donny Cates and Nic Klein. Cates continues to understand how to perfectly write Thor, Galactus, and Sif as fascinating, multi-layered characters. Meanwhile, Klein elevates everything going on with the Black Winter storyline by filling Thor #4 with incredible artwork to bring Cates' story to life. Read Full Review

he stakes are high, the issue is fast and furious, and the characters' emotions are fueled by their actions throughout the issue. There is no doubt in my mind that the character of Thor is growing throughout this narrative and he's doing so in such a short amount of time. Read Full Review

You Don't Read Comics - Christopher Landers

    Apr 01, 2020

Overall, its too early to tell if this story is really working yet. It started as one thing and seems to be evolving into something else, resulting in somewhat confusing pacing. In the long run, that could be a good thing. Right now, it just seems sloppy or uneven, at best. Cates, over his time at Marvel, has earned enough goodwill with the readers to keep them around a little longer, though. Just how long, nobody knows. Read Full Review

While this was the first issue of Cates run that didn't feature a jaw dropping, hall of fame worthy opening page or 2, he really came hard in the emotional moments of Thor #4. Seeing Sif stand up to her King was so powerful. Seeing Thor blind himself in preparation of Winter's arrival and crying at the loss of life before him was humbling. Sure, this issue wasn't as great as the first three, but Thor keeps coming hard each month and #4 is no different. Read Full Review

Sif is such a great character that Aaron vastly underused. She was very badass this issue and hopefully Cates is smart enough to write in Thor and Sif getting back together, because they work much better than Thor and Jane. Loki's brief but important appearance is by far my favorite moment of the series so far. Cates' 4 issue Thor run is already the stuff of legend

Prelude: Cates' Thor has been amazing so far, I've been looking forward to this issue and I can't wait to jump in. The Good: Sif is amazing in this issue. Some interesting plot points even if I'm a bit tired of Thor being unworthy again. Klein's art is great. That cliffhanger is enticing. It's rare that I praise something outside of the writer and artist but Matt Wilson's colours are extremely well done. It takes the story to that next level. The Bad: Nothing. Conclusion: Another wonderful issue from Cates and Klein. I'm enjoying this whole ride so much.

so far, Donny cates' Thor has been one of the treats of 2020. It has been one of the best new series that marvel and writer Donny cates has produced. But this issue was not as big as the others because in this issue we were promised the fight between thor, lady sif and beta ray bill, but the climax wasn't that good and we didn't even get that huge fight we were expecting, overall this issue was fantastic but the climax of the lady sif fight could've been much much better. Well, thank you Donny cates for this fantastic series, I hope they can wrap up the black winter story arc good.

Seriously, the writing from Donny Cates in this book is so good, its probably the best I have ever seen from him. We also get to play with Loki and foreshadows something very interesting. Art and colors are fire like always. Such emotion of a grand epic is unveiled in this issue, and it only ramps up towards the end of this issue, awaiting a battle with the so called Black Winter. A very well done issue.

Lady sif works so well in the role of the guardian of the bifrost, she is both regal and empathetic. Love the teasing of loki this issue as a taste of the potential future. Galactus and thor continue to be characterized so well and their relationship is built on the foundation of carrying the largest burdens in the universe

There are two more issues of this arc and it really feels like we're getting ready for the finale. Despite the issue's cover, I liked the fact that Sir decided to have a conversation with Thor, rather than go straight to fighting him. Speaking of which, I found their encounter powerful and very well-done, something Cates is no stranger to at this point. Loki's moment with Mjolnir was interesting and I'm hoping it's touched up on again in the future. As for Galactus, I think we could have spent a little more time on the first three of the four worlds, but it's completely understandable why it was just the one page. As for the fourth world, I appreciated the story told there, as it put more of a strain on the already-strained-relationship of more

SPOILERS **** The only joy I really got out of the story is that Loki lifted Mjolnir, which was cool to see, and hopefully gets a payoff after this arc. Other than that, this felt pretty standard Thor stuff. idk I've seen most of this before in thor runs, the epicness, the planets being destroyed. Instead of spending time having a small squabble between Thor and Sif, they could have spent this issue building up Thor having a relationship with the alien world that Galactus destroys, so we feel more emotional when Galactus does destroy it, but it feels so sudden. He says like 2 sentences before the planet is destroyed, and suddenly he is crying. In Aaron's run, he dedicated an entire issue of Thor going to help every species, so we ge more

Good Stuff! Black Winter is a great threat, it makes for a threat that feels real and moments like this issue that hit home. The Galactus and Thor road trip is fantastic...So far this is easily one of the funnest and most shareable Thor stories to date. Sif felt like a yeah yeah kinda moment for me. And the story didnt progress a whole lot....Still a gorgeous looking issue.

Sif offers Thor an ego-check rather than a knockdown fight. He and Galactus complete their planet quest quickly (too quickly for my taste) and square off against the Black Winter. At its high, epic level, this is still a magnificent book in words and art. It's the little details -- the particular turns of phrase, the faces -- that are ever-so-slightly lacking.

We're moving through everything faster than I suspected, it's a bit too fast-paced for my taste. I'm curious about this development surrounding Loki/Mjolnir, I expect Cates to follow up on that plot thread later.
