Spider-Woman has had a few series before. Though shes had her moments, shes never been wildly successful on her own. Pacheco and Prez point Jessica in the right direction for a whole new series that gives Spider-Woman an appealing new direction as a rare mother/superhero combination that could prove to be interesting in the months to come. Spider-Woman #1 wastes no time heaving its star and its readers into exciting, mysterious new adventures. The art is consistently gorgeous. The script is packed with immediately satisfying action, compelling questions for the future, and a strong protagonist voice. It's the Jessica Drew we know and love, but these creators are quickly and constructively making their own mark on the character. Spider-Woman #1 is a really fun first issue that captures the WOW factor by a creative team that is doing the most and having the most fun while at it. I haven't reviewed a Marvel book in such a long time, and it is certainly one of the books that is showcasing the best that Marvel has to offer in regards to talent. Read Full Review

This was an okay start for Spider-Woman. Karla Pacheco starts things light, but things get more violent for Jessica as the issue progressesand it's all her fault. That's not entirely true, as we get a mysterious cliffhanger that shows that, and while I am interested in seeing more of that, I was hoping for a little more out of this issue. Still, Pere Perez's art was great, and I think fans of Spider-Woman will enjoy this beginning. Read Full Review

I have been a Spider-Woman fan since her very first series. Sure not every reiteration has worked, but Marvel have been going great guns with their female led books. As I have been looking forward to this book, I really wanted to love it, This is the first issue, meaning that it is no means the finished article. Spider-Woman #1 was a disappointing read. Action fans will certainly enjoy the fighting in this issue. But, outside of that? There is nothing of substance to this issue. The lack of anything original or compelling makes Spider-Woman #1 quickly disappear into the mass of other superhero titles already on the market. Keep in mind that the price of entry for Spider-Woman #1 is $5.00. There is simply no way in the world I could recommend anyone spending that much money for so little in return. Spider Woman 1 is super hero comics done right. Karla Pacheco’s humor was absolute amazing and every joke landed. Perez’s art is top tier and it honestly shocked me. I’ve never heard of Karla Pacheco before but this could end up being on of Jessica Drew’s greatest story. Great action. Great humor. Great art. Great characterization. Horrible costume

Im new to the Spider Woman fanclub. Always knew she was there but Ive never followed any books. That changes today and boy am I glad I made the leap. Action was fantastic and I do quite dig the costume. Good stuff.

Dead broke, Jessica Drew resorts to taking a billionaire bodyguard gig. The result is a surprisingly brutal yacht-fight with a horde of kidnappers; Jess is as surprised as any bystander at her own brutality. The creators hit the ground running with a fast pace, a clever structure, scads of action, snappy jokes, great characterization, and some insanely gorgeous art. It's an ideal introduction all around.

Fun, action-packed, superb art. This is what makes reading comics a joy and this is what Spider-Woman has. The story isn’t anything spectacular, as Jessica Drew is hired as a bodyguard, but the comic is good enough, dialogue wise, to entertain the reader. And the fact that Jessica takes up this job to earn money in order to support her family adds a bit of a human touch to the superhero. If you’re looking for a comic to throughly enjoy and remind you that comics are sometimes meant to be more fun than serious then Spider-Woman will provide just that.

The main story is fun. I could have done without the followup short story, but I guess there is an important revelation at the end. If she's so broke, why is she prioritizing a new costume? So Jessica really just walks and cabs everywhere in her superhero costume? I can't tell if this is purposefully tongue-in-cheek.

Prelude: New Spider-Woman series and it's piqued my interest enough to check it out. Let's see how it goes. The Good: I.... I like the new suit. The action is really well done. Perez's art is great. The Bad: I'm not quite sure where this series is going exactly and that's worrying for a first issue. Conclusion: It's a good enough issue but the first issue is a mission statement of the series. What's the mission statement here?
