Comics: The Gathering - Charles Martin
Mar 11, 2020Immortal Hulk #32 tears off the veil and clarifies how Xemnu is screwing with the world. It looks exquisite, it induces a terrifying, intentional sense of alienation, and it includes some all-time great character work. You Don't Read Comics - Christopher Landers
Apr 01, 2020This arc is a tiny, but not abrupt, change of pace from the usual tone of this book, adding a little bit of humor to its horror. Thats not a bad thing at all, though. Xemnu makes for a terrifying Hulk villain, and Agger continues to be an unexpected, but worthy foe for ol Jade Jaws. However, it was heavy in explanation sandwiched between remarkably bone-chilling art by the extremely talented Joe Bennett, who if I haven't mentioned before is a rockstar and should be illustrating more comics, Marvel! Ewing thrusts this comedic element into the narrative with Xemnu that lightens the mood of the story yet slaps readers in the face with this grotesque luncheon later in the issue. Read Full Review

Xemnu has just changed the planet. Changed the world and almost nobody seems to notice it. Robert Banner, the strangest man alive wants to destroy that planet. That world. The only thing from stopping Banner is Hulk. But Hulk needs help. And that help will come from a world breaker. I enjoy this series so much. Another 10 from me.

This is probably my second favorite mainstream series, only under Hellblazer. So consistent, so creepy. Xemnu is truly terrifying.

Trying to think why I wouldn't give this a ten....solid villain with some horrifying moments. When Xemnu eats the horror element of this series comes rushing back. Then that epic finale when all of these weird mental games begins to bloom.

It's the Living Hulk, Marvel's most beloved hero, versus the Devil Robert Banner, Gamma-terrorist! This psychological horror issue slowly, spookily ensures that every reader understands how Xemnu has messed with the world's collective memories. It's standard-issue greatness, as expected for this series. But some splendid bonus moments (the big body horror splash, Dr. McGowan's amazing conversation, and that new Hulk alter) easily elevate this issue to GOAT status.

Great yet again! Ewing and Bennet are becoming like chocolate and peanut butter! The Banner DID dynamic is fascinating and creepy. Hulk is about to get nasty. Dario Agger better hire more people quick because HR can't get them in fast enough. That splash spread of Xemnu feeding is an absolute masterpiece. I didn't even talk about Rodriguez's CRT TVs pages....too many good things are happening!

Much closer to the tone and pacing of the first 13 issues, but still one too many bits that don't really add anything to the story (which has been going on for a while, now) and actually ends up detracting from the fullest impact of Xemnu's plan. Up to now, long-form Immortal Hulk has not been as succinct and tight as it was in the beginning.

This gets super slow. Like, this issue moved the story only once, when they realized, that Xemnu is in their heads. In everyone's head. Oh, yeah, and also that all of a sudden McGowan is trans. Yeah, that was super important and essential for the series. The best twist of all time. Oh and also Green Scar is back. That's pretty much it... I think this Roxxon arc is already longer, than it was needed.
