Eternals #5

Eternals #5 is another triumph for this book. Gillen expands on the lore of the Eternals, introducing a new faction and using infographic pages to drop even more secrets and info on readers than before. Ribic's art is outstanding throughout, really capturing the emotion and power of Gillen's script. This issue sets up a lot of great stuff, and it'll be interesting to see how it all plays out. The most action packed issue to date, and we finally find out whos behind it all. Are they doing this by his own volition, or is the mastermind behind the plot being manipulated themselves? When will we finally meet some of the new Eternals created for this series? The answers revealed in this issue creates more questions. Pacing, and the delay between issues hurt this book, but not enough to lose interest in it. Read Full Review

Eternals #5 finally brings some major development to the Eternals' murder mystery and the Great Machine's malfunction. However, the reveals may not be the most impactful once readers find out who's responsible. But now it feels like the series is getting back on track and things are heating up for the better. This was perfect, loved the twists and turns and how the story managed to show us the different characters of the team. Excellent story telling. Super bleak plotlines as we can see the rifts between the Eternals family. The action, the emotion, it's all there. Powerhouse team of Gillen and Ribic!

Eternals remains one of the best books marvel is putting out. When people say modern comics are bad, ask them if they've read this. Then tell them to read this and come back to you. Once again, gorgeous art, brilliant writing(even the expository narrator comes as his own witty character), inventive humor and an epic sense to every panel in the best way. Pick this up. If you haven't read the previous issues, pick those up too.

We continue to see how the Eternals have a very different view of consequences. Some of them despite working for a goal to better the world still do pretty bad things. Sersi for example is more than willing to twist truths to her whim. So seeing Gilgamesh/Forgotten One be the one to explain his need to punish and set boundaries for the Eternals is a step up. Because past issues continue to show how Eternals like to play the long game and see their actions as no big deal, with Sprite bringing up some of the misdeeds she did in a casual manner. It's like everybody stops caring in time. So is that why the traitor is siding with Thanos? To bring in that sense of balance back. The way the art and interactions with the great machine are all pr actically seeing Eternals as gods. more

A solid issue. I don't have much to say about it. The finale to the arc will probably give me more to discuss. I'm glad they're addressing the fact that Thanos was killed via black hole in Cates' Guardians run.

Though I'm confused, I also feel like I'm reading an epic myth, which I think is the sweet spot for Eternals.

Probably the weakest issue overall but, had some really good parts that made it feel like a good set up for things to come. Its definitely a slow burn type series.

This series, which started off really strong, is starting to feel like it's circling itself a little bit. I was hoping this would really get me interested in a side of the Marvel universe I didn't know a lot about, and the opening issues really made me feel like that's where we were headed, but now it seems we're in "suspect of the week" territory and it's not quite as exciting. There's still something to it that I can't quite put my finger on. Dialog is really well done, Ribic's art would be top of the game if only someone would get him an eye reference that wasn't inflatable, and there's still a sort of interesting mystery going on here. So, I'm definitely going to be pressing forward with it, but I really hope things pick up a litt le soon. For what it's worth, it already seems like the next issue might be putting us back on track. more
