Dark Ages #5 is a great example of controlled escalation. Even though there is now only one issue left in the Dark Ages story it doesn't feel like we are rushing to that end. Tom Taylor and Iban Coello are very much in control of this story as they are building the narrative around Apocalypse being the greatest threat possible. Read Full Review

Final Thoughts:Marvels Dark Ages #5 by Tom Taylor was not the best issue in the series. Yes, this is the second to last issue in the miniseries, so they are planning on going out with a bang. There were some lovable moments (shoutout to Deadpool) coupled with the cringe moments (Dr. Doom giving parenting advice). Overall, I would skip this issue. The plot half steps throughout #5 and leaves something to be desired. However, I have read a lot of Tom Taylor in the past, and I am confident that this series will end on a high note! This comic is definitely good, without really approaching greatness. The characters sound right, but they're a little shallow. The plot is compelling and twisty, but also episodic -- a chain of distinct set pieces. The art's imaginative and dynamic, but the finish is a little rough. It's a fine comic to enjoy, but it'd be hard to get passionate about. That's my subjective take, anyway. Pete claims the heroes didn't take any casualties, but does anybody see Laura or Blade at the end?

The only thing that disappointed me so much, more than misleading cover, is Deadpool presence in DA. I don't really think Deadpool should be included. Series was going good but Deadpool... Deadpool works better in his own series than in anyone else or team up series.

This just rushes from one scene to another in such a way that the entire series is shaping up to be fun but ultimately superficial and pointless. It’s cool to see the new characters Taylor has come up with, and it’s fun to see heroes like Storm get to exercise their power, but the way it was done it presents like a highlight reel more than a cohesive story.

I'm going to be honest, I am only still reading this because, it's almost over and I'm a completionist with short series. It's definitely not bad but, it's far from anything that good. Ready to wrap it up next issue.

This issue is not very engaging. The story seems very rushed at this point, but not much is happening. I really just didn't click with this one. The art is good at least, and there's a good moment with Deadpool and Gabby. That's about it, though.

I honestly forgot this comic was still going on. Taylor just seems like a cash grab type of writer. All bang, no substance.

Including the moronic Deadpool character in this just ruined it for me. He's a terrible character period, but putting him in this series, just turned it into something I don't plan to finish.
