Amazing Spider-Man #24 is one of the most important issues of Spencer’s run. Not too much happens, but if you can call it a slow burn, it’s the best kind. Writer Nick Spencer exhales a bit from all the recent high-minded "Hunted" goings-on, and takes some time to get back to basics as far as Peter and Mary Jane are concerned. But in taking too much space to set up the next big story - and not quite sticking the landing with it - instead of just taking some quiet time to reflect and have some quiet, smaller moments. That was amazing. A great setup for this new villain. Or old. I'm so interested to know, who is he/she? Art is great too, Beck's writing is on point. Maybe the only downside is that we don't know who that person is?

The creators spin up a whole issue of tension to make it seem super-duper impressive when they reveal Centipede Guy's name. I'm stuck on the obvious problem: "What should we call this guy?" doesn't crack my Top 5 List Of Biggest Centipede Guy Mysteries. And while this issue has fine storytelling chops, I'm thinking the creators' intent was not to perversely amplify my desire to keep calling Centipede Guy Centipede Guy. But that's what they did.

Predictable. I could tell going in that it wouldn't actually answer anything. I am starting to think it is Flash maybe, or Harry. Once again, Pete and MJ's relationship seems to be entirely in bed, even if sometimes that is a bed of webs. Still interested to see where this goes. Nick Spencer is good at setup, but not so great at sticking the landing.
