Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #13 really kicks off the new creative era with a bang. The creative team really hit a homerun with this initial issue. Continuing the amazing story that we have been following, while at the same time adding some awesome elements that will surely drive the story forward. The TMNT Universe is in amazing hands and if this first issue is any indication we are in for one heck of a ride. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #13 sees the boys back in action, but now things are better than ever. Theyre no longer torn apart and hunted. Instead, the brothers are back together and now, the city views them as heroes helping to save the day. Its a little bittersweet, however, since theyre missing their dad, but theyre plenty busy thanks to the murder of the Ghost Boys Triad leader. Of course, its never quite that straightforward. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #13 is fantastic start to Gene Luen Yang and Freddie E. Williams II's creative run. They do a great job tapping into the potential in the foundation left to them by their predecessors. Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo being public heroes does a lot for what their dynamic is with each other and the world around them. The added big developments that they are not aware of adds another level of intrigue in what will happen in this series moving forward. This issue kicks off with a fresh new fun flavor while still having some intriguing elements at play, especially the reveal at the end. This is a great change of direction after Aaron's attempt at something different that ultimately didn't do it for me. I just hope Yang doesn't lean too much into the cartoony personalities of the turtles and delivers on the depth and emotional beats that the IDW series has excelled at.

I thought Jason Aaron would continue TMNT, but I was wrong. But to my surprise, Gene Luen Yang picks up Jason Aaron's pace and I am shocked on how intrigued and interesting this is. I like Gene Luen Yang's writing for the Turtles, and the art gives me flashback to Batman/TMNT crossover since it's the same writer. Overall, I'm happy to say I'm still very excited and interested to see how this will all unfold.

This new arc is different, a lot. The main lore of course continues but you're feeling something else while reading it. It's like the soul and energy has changed. Good thing this first arc issue is fully packed with everything you want from TMNT. It probably takes some time to adjust, but we're in good hands for now. Actually we went from Jason Aaron's fine dining to Gene Luen Yang's flaming BBQ. Lets dig in.

Jason Aaron may have left, but Gene Luen Yang offers us a good jumping-on point with the Turtles working together at last and a worthwhile adversary. I'm definitely in, can't wait for the next issue !

Feels very disjointed from Jason Aaron’s run, which may be a good thing, only time will tell.. Arts fun to look at and the writings solid.
