Teen Titans Academy #6

Teen Titans Academy #6is a superb issue of comic storytelling. Sheridan richly expands on the story and characters he and Sandoval have set up with an intriguing mystery and fantastic character dynamics and action. Summer Zahid is a fantastic leading character, and this issue helps set her up as a wonderful force to be reckoned with in DC Comics, along with the rest of her teammates. With the trademark great art by Sandoval, Arreola, and Tarragona, and the vivacious lettering by Leigh, this is one Teen Titans story you don't want to miss. Read Full Review

Teen Titans Academy #6 tackles another school trope with Summer Break, but this creative team knows how to handle the generic and put their own spin on it. This is the start of a good two-parter Teen Titans Academy story. Similar to the Yearbook issue, Sheridan and Sandoval are playing around with what you can do with a superhero school and of course, the summer break ends up having them use their wits on their own. While you do get an extra dose of characters in this issue and their interactions with one another, the way that it was presented felt forced and out of nowhere from what we've seen so far and the overall story was even more so.  Thankfully, the art was great and the characters were fun because I want to like this series but it always feels like it wants to just be a book where we care about the characters without any of the work put in. The art (especially the colors) in Teen Titans Academy #6 is a treat to look at, and hey, at least we've moved away from the gimmicks, for now. Even so, the series' seeming stubborn refusal to develop its characters, cringe humor, and tone-deaf dialogue continue to hold Teen Titans Academy back from being anything more than mediocre. I don't want it to be. In fact, I would love nothing more than this series to blow me away. Maybe, hopefully, we'll get to see a delightful supervillain mop the floor with these kids next month. Teen Titans Academy as a whole seems to ebb and flow with moments well-written and somewhat abrupt plot changes. The somewhat rocky flow of the story doesn't engage me as some other comic storylines have, although I am crossing my fingers that that might change as the adventure develops. How this story surrounding Gorilla Grodd and his nephew might impact the deeper plot with Red X will hopefully be revealed in the issue to come. Read Full Review

To this book's credit, the art is really nice, lovely even the artist on this should be very proud of their work; it's the only thing remotely worthwhile in this title. I would seldom suggest destroying a comic book, but cutting this comic up to use as a poster seems like a better use of its great art than carrying the lousy narrative. Read Full Review

Admittedly this was a good way to break off from the Red X story before coming back to it as this deals more with the students making an impression. It feels like some good downtime where students interact and deal with their limitations to build on and maybe overcome. Especially since it got at my anxieties of dealing with a mob that have turned violent. Plus when a classic villain and the ties to a character come up, it feels like conflict and stakes feel real. My only gripe is why have such a large group of students if not all of them are going to show up down the line?

The plot isn't the most engaging, but some of the character work is cute. I like Stitch. The writer manages to thread the needle between obnoxious and fun with that character very well.

This series isn't my favorite DC run right now, but I have enjoyed the dynamics between the characters. I adore Stitch, and particularly liked the shift in focus from the Red X arc that I feel has gotten drawn out and contrived. Overall, a decent installment that has a pretty wild cliffhanger.

The students are currently not interesting enough to hold an entire book alone, and it's quite weird focusing on them rather than the actual Titans or even the previous roster of the TT. The writing is nice, but I just don't care enough about these kids to read about them.

this series feels like blind sticks, completely deviating from Red X now we move on to the gorillas. I do not feel that there is much to see here, although this series has always seemed very weak to me, hitting it blindly, at least with Red X there was a bit of direction, boring but it was heading to a point.

Reviewing the sixth issue of Teen Titans Academy and it seems we're just going to move away from the Red X storyline altogether. The Book is absolute trash at this point, Firstly it never gave important character development and arc to new characters it introduced (which are so many) and than it tries to handle Teen titans with these new kids plus the red X arc; spoiler alert this issue has nothing to do with Red X apparently. its been 6 issues meaning a arc has been done (usually a comic has arc spread out in 6 issues, like Nightwing) and all six issues has been bad, they try to fit to many characters because of which it is not able to focus on anything specific. ex.. last issue was about the Mystery of Red X now now suddenly about gorillas and then after couple of issues it will jump back to the Red X arc. So at this point the writer is just in his own world and giving us half plots and sections and assumes us to imagine his story on our own. This book needs a new writer or a better choice would be to just close the book and start a new teen titans book, and give an Gotham academy book to someone like Joshua Williamson or Tom Taylor who seems to be doing good with a Buch of characters in their books. more
