Superman#6 is a lovely return to the typical world of Superman and the Dawn of DC. While some of Clark's actions do seem strange, they are still always rooted in his character. With incredible art and good character work, it is absolutely worth a read. After months of Knight Terrors, it's just nice to get back to continuing the mystery of Lex's history and Project: Chained. The book at times feels like it's going to lean into the All-Star Superman concept with how Supercorp operates and I'm completely down for something weird and fun like that. But it ends up going a bit more into the anime realm with what's hidden beneath Rykers and some of the standard crime stuff of Metropolis. The best parts continue to be Lois and Clark together as well as anytime Superman interacts with the actual working force of Supercorp because he can completely inspire them down the right path. The action in this is decent, the character designs have a neat feeling that at times reminded me of Barry Windsor-Smith, and I love when it takes some time to just breathe and explore the weirdness of what Supercorp has going on. Superman #6 starts the new Chained story arc as Superman seeks to uncover Lex Luthor's secret Project: Chained. While the interior artist did change, the art in the comic is still good when it comes to depicting Superman and the other characters. The story quickly brings reader into the story and gets right to what people are here for. A story that feels like a retread of the first arc doesnt catch this reader like it should. Add in recycled story beats from the first arc and an artist that doesnt hit the mark, and youve got a recipe for mediocrity. Superman probably 'dun goofed' in this issue. Love how it played out though. Chained looks quite promising as an enemy and there is a lot of room for some great character building. Nice start to the next arc.

Well the art changed here but it's still really good in it's own way, but I do miss the use of colors previously and how things felt like they had a bit more depth to them. Nonetheless this is good. Lex is in the hospital recovering, Superman is learning more about Lex's secrets and finds a chained psych named Sammy deep underground. Superman feeling that Lex is not "judge, jury, executioner, decided that Sammy should be freed not knowing what he is. Obviously Sammy is dangerous and volatile, and chains up Suprman and gets away. Some god close up panels here of characters.

I’m really liking this new status quo for Superman, and I continue to be engaged by the mystery of Luthor’s past. I felt the pacing of this issue was a little too quick, but I’m excited for this new arc! Oh and I really like Melnikov as a fill in artist, I wouldn’t mind seeing more from him!

This was a pretty good issue as far as modern comics go, and that's saying something. Just a note to Williamson, The "Metropolis" nickname? Never again, huh? In addition to being unfunny it made Superman look like a Lamebrain. It's bad enough you make us endure that atrocious "Smallville" one a couple of times every issue (I loathe when Lois calls him that). Anyhoo, the Chained is a clever concept. I'll give 'em that. I look forward to seeing why he hates Lex so much and what deadly powers he has. I'm with most of my fellow reviewers that he could look a little more menacing, but Superman has taken on a lot of tough ones before who didn't look so at first. It was also a little nice to get some time off from Pharm and Graft. Let's not have to have these guys in EVERY issue, huh? They'd wear out their welcome before the big showdown that way (Remember Ruin? I was sick to death of him over a year before he was finally unmasked). I'm hoping for a good oversized (and overpriced) #850. more

Easily my favorite book going at DC right now. Williamson is doing a fantastic job of harnessing the flavor of the animated series and classic characters while also expanding the world and introducing compelling new villains. My only concern is how awful Williamson's events have been and I really hope he doesn't drop the ball on what could be a classic run. Also have to applaud Williamson on putting in a recap page which is needed throughout DC's line.

This was a nice setup issue for the new "Chained" storyline. I can't lie, I was expecting the prisoner to have a bit of a better/cooler design with him being trapped in what I'm guessing to be a high security prison, but I guess it's his powers that make him such a big threat. I'm looking forward to learning more about him in the next issue, which I'm hoping will be a good one considering it's Legacy #850. As for this issue's art, Melnikov is no Jamal Campbell, but his art isn't bad whatsoever here, and I actually thought it fit with this current story. I continue to be interested by this title and I'm looking forward to next month's over-sized issue.

When Supes arrests someone 4life is okay, but when lex doest it Clark MUST save the person before even talking with the prisoner! Okay boy scout.

Decent enough issue. Superman acts a little out of character here to get to the prison. I felt he would have taken a more measured response. He’s not an idiot he’s supposed to be a Boy Scout.

Maybe it's the lingering bad aftertaste of Knight Terrors, but I thought the issue didn’t capture the momentum of the series after its extended hiatus. DC’s summer event derailed many Dawn of DC titles and it’s a shame it impacted the Man of Steel’s title negatively. Was it the nightmare he was forced to endure that causes Superman to make some out-of-character and bad choices? Or was it a plot device to get us to the reveal towards the end of the book? It felt lazy and took me out of the issue. I also didn’t buy the new baddie revealed at the end and hope that Williamson can course correct soon. The series started off so strong and I’d hate to see this falter.

Still not loving the price of this book and I have no idea why they feel Superman is worth $5.00. I do like Lois not adapting to corporate life easily. I did miss not seeing Jimmy and Livewire in this issue. I do think this Chained character is a little lazy in development and characterization, but let's see where it goes. By this time next year odds are all comics will be $5 or more. That was the whole reason they added those pointless backups in the first place. And soon, like with this book, they'll ALL be $5 at the regular price. Then in a couple of years backups will return so they can raise the price to $6....providing they don't decide to just skip ahead to $10 (which wouldn't surprise me in the least).
