Now that is a great cliffhanger! Yes, the Parasite and the Banshee are 'defeated' easily. But they are sort of small components of the bigger plot and I am okay with it. The back-and-forth between Superman and his new associates is a great part of this series, as he constantly frustrates Luthor by refusing to give up his morals. This is also the best use of Jimmy since his solo series, as the offbeat former cub reporter actually seems like an adventurous and heroic person in his own right. Read Full Review

Superman #5 builds on the rest of the Banshee arc and brings it to a satisfying close. The questions that it raises remain compelling, especially when it comes to Lex's redemption. The only reason that the cliffhanger ending disappoints is that it means another two months before we get to learn just what's going to happen to Superman's greatest nemesis. Read Full Review

Superman #5 concludes the story arc with Silver Banshee as Superman resolves the fight, with a little help from his pal and Banshee's new boyfriend Jimmy Olsen. The comic does a good job showing how the two hook up and sells the relationship between Jimmy Olsen and Silver Banshee as genuine. Jimmy even gets his time to shine in his own way with Superman. The creative team do a great job with giving this comic heart, laughs, and a good deal of action. And the ending will definitely create shockwaves for Superman and the rest of DC Comics, at least it should. Read Full Review

Its the fifth issue of the newest run of Williamson and Campbells return of Superman to his own self-titled series, and theyre still off to a strong start. The newest additions to the Superman rogues gallery hasnt been the greatest of additions, the story being delivered has been entertaining. Williamsons sticking to his strengths, and has managed to avoid some pitfalls thats negatively affected some of his more loftier series. Read Full Review

Once again, this is how superman should feel. This was an interesting issue though, this villain this time is much more quickly resolved, due to them not really wanting to be a villain in the first place. If you like Jimmy, you get classic Silver Age silliness with him (miles might vary but this is really in character for him so I find it great). Art is great. That ending. Oh wow talk about a tonal shift. Honestly it paints the entire issue in a much darker tone. Without getting into details, it essentially punishes Superman for even the brief moments where he gets to feel human. Which is interesting to explore/quite sad. Williamson continues to be on fire this run. Easy, easy recommend.

Another solid read,only deducting points for the boring Moonlight character but again only one page. Everything else around that, the social aspect of the characters, and Lex getting stabbed to bloody hell and almost dying. Superman didn;t save him because in his last fight with Banshee he temporarily lost his super hearing, when he does find out Lex almost died Superman is really hard on himself for not being there to save him. Again emphasis on the art, it is phenomenal.

The writing and inks are pitch perfect—this is a great era for Superman. Williamson continues the heart that has permeated this series, and Campbell is brilliant at drawing thrilling action and touching quiet moments. I still find myself wishing Campbell’s colors were a bit brighter, and the pacing of this issue wasn’t as strong as previous ones. But this was still a fantastic issue, with a great cliffhanger!

It really sucks that this, along with the majority of DC's titles, is taking a two-month break for Knight Terrors. This issue was really good throughout, and I thought the cliffhanger with Lex at the end was very interesting. Glad to have Campbell doing every single page of art here, as he's just amazing. This was a stronger issue heading into Knight Terrors.
