Comics are expensive. This run so far has dedicated a lot of pages to things that don't require it. Here we get 4 or 5 pages dedicated to a blood transfusion conversation. That's just one example. For me the art just doesn't gel well with the story being told. Compare this to Batman dark patterns, which is great writing and art collaboration. Both titles by Watters.

Geek Dad - Ray Goldfield
Mar 19, 2025This run is far more action-packed and mainstream than Watters' usual horror-tinged work, but it's a pretty great take on Bludhaven that shows just how easy it is for a city to lose the progress it's made. Read Full Review

Get Your Comic On - Neil Vagg
Mar 19, 2025Dan Watters latest issue of Nightwing pulls together the threads and leaves our hero pointed directly at the Cirque du Sin. It feels like the story is building towards a huge crescendo. Finally revealing several of the key players but leaving plenty of road left to travel. Read Full Review

Batman-News - Aaron Ray Jr.
Mar 19, 2025On With The Show is an underwhelming start to the Watters era of Nightwing. On one hand, the arc introduces cool looking and maleficent new villains like Zanni to Nightwing lore. Simultaneously, it can't nail down its themes of belonging in gang culture, escalation of force, and whatever is going on with the Cirque Du Sin. Highlights include the interesting lore and abilities of the Flyboiz and the mysterious Zanni. Frankly, this arc ends as undercooked set up without saying very much over these last five chapters. What little it does sprinkle devolves into action sequences or ignoring logic in favor of nonsensical political commentary or pushing dull plot devices. Going forward, I'd like to see more focus on the gangs, and the development of characters like Bryce or Crystal. Read Full Review

The Batman Universe - Ian Miller
Mar 23, 2025While some nice creepy effects of Watters's new villains deploy on the page, the overly simple storyline, stretching of plausibility, and weak thematic and character development leave this arc finale a bit underwhelming. Read Full Review

I'm loving the black and white art for the Zanni scenes.

This is a mixed bag of an issue. Part of it progresses as one might expect, but the fourth wall breaking Zanni is a little strange. The supernatural element doesn't fit Nightwing very well and it's a huge jump from the street level story that's been unfolding with the street gangs and Dick Grayson's concern for the kids of Bludhaven who've been caught up in the violence. The relationship between Dick and Barbara is still depicted well and is still the basis for the title. Dan Watters continues to develop relevant themes around Dick that evoke thoughtful consideration.

This storyline is a mess. The most action that Dick sees in this issue is giving blood to save people we don't care about. The writer seems to be making this stuff up as he goes along, and throws new nonsensical random elements into the mix just cuz. I miss the Tom Taylor days, even the lesser-Taylor days near the end of his run. Skip this book, the sales are circling the drain.

Garbage. Don't try to do manga if you don't understand the medium and you got bad pacing in general. Don't make comics if you don't read comics.
