Yeah, Grant Morrison is pulling out all eras of GL for this one, I think it is understandable to be lost. He is referencing a lot of GL from 59 to the late 80s' in just 2 issues. I know because I have read it all. Recommend reading to better understand some of these characters: the story by Alan Moore in Tales of the Green Lantern Corps Annual #3 and the second story in Green Lantern #37 from the Gil Kane era. The controllers are also like the opposite of the Guardians and have their own police

Dec 05, 2018If this issue is not in your stack when you walk out of your local comic shop, then your stack is incomplete. Even if you are a digital reader, go to the closest comic shop and pick up a physical copy, you will want to have this on your shelf. The artwork is simply gorgeous and brings all these incredible looking alien Lanterns to life. The story itself is pretty captivating and delivers some pretty solid belly laughs. Morrison's style of dialogue still feels just a touch off to my ears but it delivers the kind of style it needs to in order to create the mood that it wants. I'm loving the style of the aliens that we're getting throughout it and just the kind of epicness of the structures that exist out there as it leans into some classic SF aspects. Dec 05, 2018The Green Lantern #2 is a hard book for me to judge. I like most of it. The story is intriguing and after this issue, I have somewhat of a better grasp on it. I enjoy the art as well; Sharp has a wonderfully detailed style and I love seeing all of these crazy aliens brought to life. On the other hand, I was very confused about a lot of things storywise in this issue and mainly my faith in Grant Morrison bringing this all together in later issues kept me. The art also is not very dynamic. It looks beautiful but I wish it had a little more "flow" or a sense of motion to it. The Green Lantern #2 is a solid issue with some flaws. Someone give Liam Sharp all the awards there is! Fucking Artist God! I didnt know Volk. Hes a sentient volcano, i guess, that is a Green Lantern. Thats as awesome as it can get! Pretty fun issue. The "WTF is going on" factor is there, as always, but its still pretty great.

An absolute dream come true for Silver Age GL fans, who are also Grant Morrison fans. Liam Sharp also deserves props for how incredible the art he is delivering on this title is, even if there was a slight error in panel 2.

Prelude: The Green Lantern started off greatly in it's first issue. Let's see how Morrison goes in "Darkness Visible". The Good: The Green Lanterns Morrison uses are absolutely great, especially Volk. The interrogation was great. Evil Star was great. Liam Sharp's art. Man, it was great. That cliffhanger. Love it. The Bad: Nothing. Conclusion: Morrison ramps up the story and I'm fully on board.

Issue 1 left me somewhat underwhelmed but Morrison is not a one issue writer so patience is needed. Luckily issue 2 was only a short wait. The good writers turn themselves into students of the title. Morrison brings back historical characters like Evil Star and the Dhorians. Each issue he introduces weirder and weirder Green Lanterns, like the living volcano. Then he takes the classic "Good cop bad cop" interrogation and gives it a "space opera" bent. Combine that with Liam Sharp's great art (remembering that there are so many things going on in a Morrison story that it must be a challenge) and this highly anticipated collaboration is starting to deliver.

i think i'm going to have to re-read this one again. i'm not 100% familiar with Green Lantern lore, and all the obscure corners of the DCU. while reading this comic i was too busy trying to gather who everyone was, that i missed out on a lot of the story. now, i love Grant Morrison. he's one of my favorite comic writers. but i can't just blindly heap praise on every single thing he does. some of his stories i absolutely LOVE, others i like a lot, others that are just ok, others are kind of 'Eh', and then there are stories that are . . .well . . see my 'Wonder Woman Earth One' review. like i said, there are some things i just can't heap praise upon, just because my favorite writer wrote it. but one of the reasons why i lo more

THE GOOD: -I have said it before, I will say it again, this series feels like a modern classic. I hope Morrison's run on the character is long, and if so, I will certainly be getting the omnibus of this one, to sit next to my Doom Patrol, Animal Man and Batman omnibus, because it is as good as those. -I really liked the opening to this issue. A subtle introduction into craziness that will eventually happen. -I love Liam Sharp's art. It was even better in this issue for me. I wasn't excited walking into this issue. The art was great but I was pretty much resigned to the fact that I'm not the biggest Green Lantern fan and that this would probably be my last issue. I'm happy to report that this comic is just as good as the first issue and that the charm of the characters and setting are beginning to win me over. I'm a fan of western's and procedural crime dramas and this series walks the line between both. From scene to scene Hal Jordan walks about with the heroic swagger of John Wayne but is a bit of an asshole and it's hard to pin down which Hal Jordan you're going to get on any given page. I can tell this is gonna be a slow burn. Really enjoying the detective/procedural themes Morrison has inserted in the story. Sharp's art is absolutely phenomenal. The best moments include the return of Evil Star, new Lanterns, and a classic Justice League villain's (Kanjar Ro) race coming in to cause trouble for Hal. Nice book, but nothing mind-blowing.

I didn't like this issue as much as the first. I don't know if I'm just getting a little burnt out on comics for today, since I've read a good amount. But I had real trouble getting through this issue. Some of the dialogue quirks were not helping things. I kind of find those annoying. But the story is still compelling, just something about it felt off.

Typically not a fan of Morrison, but so far I'm still with this one. The art is fantastic and the story is okay. I'll give it a least one more issue and then decide if I'll keep reading it or not.
