James Tynion IV has taken Detective Comics and transformed it from a secondary Bat-book to an absolute can't-miss title. This has been a consistently great read and with all the momentum it's gathered so far, I don't see things slowing down anytime soon. Read Full Review

Divinity II ultimately succeeds in bringing a satisfying end to story but also leaving plenty of room open for future stories. Valiant has already announced Divinity III for December, 2016. These characters are now fully established members of the Valiant universe and they will have much to say going forward. That is good news for us all. Read Full Review

While this series has previously been defined by Tynion's masterful characterization of the members of the Bat-family, this issue focuses on the Dark Knight himself, establishing Batman as a scary and ruthlessly resourceful combatant, while also leveling up General Jake Kane as a formidable adversary with a clear sense of purpose. Detective Comics #937 is yet another stellar addition to “Rise of the Batmen,” with the creative team continuing to make this one of the best titles to come out of Rebirth. Detective Comics #937 may not quite match the thrilling pace of the previous issue, but Tynion's use of humor in the script keeps this chapter lively, and the vivid artwork by Alvaro Martinez, Raul Fernandez and Brad Anderson makes every page a joy to look at. The other interesting take here is DC deciding to split the idea of the League of Assassins and the League of Shadows into separate malevolent organizations. I'll be curious to see where this leads. Detective Comics #937 is a decent issue that unfortunately feels a tad lacking. The issue doesn't make much advancement with the characters or story beyond introducing two new aspects for later. While the writing and artwork were solid, it didn't feel like I got a whole lot out of the experience. I'm predicting this will read a lot better in the trades, but until then, you won't miss much if you just wait until you can both this and the next issue together. Read Full Review

Finally, I am still in love with the art in this book. Martinez and Fernndez are a match made in heaven to me. The shading and textures are superb and help add depth to the story as it unfolds, even little details are not overlooked like the grizzly stubble on Batman's face after his time in captivity. Patrizio's colours help finish things off nicely too, at times they are quite bright and in your face, but only to serve as a contrast to the moodier, darkened backdrops. Finish this all off with the improved storytelling from Tynion and we've got ourselves a pretty decent book here folks. Fans of the series are certain to continue with it but I don't think it's necessarily strong enough on it's own to warrant your precious gold coins. Damn it though if I'm not intrigued about where this book might be heading, particularly with the League of Shadows lurking. Read Full Review

Detective Comics continues to be my biggest surprise of DC Rebirth, and the creative team manages to keep things entertaining while encouraging some real character growth amongst this band of misfits. While it isn't essential to your pull list every month, if you have the income to spare, it is a consistently great read every issue. Read Full Review

A continuation of this great first arc, this comic keeps up the high quality and flows nicely; keeping me desperately looking forward to the next issue. This comic was primarily exposition for the following issue and explaining the details so far, but in overall trade format this will be both a necessary and an enjoyable part. The artwork is continually strong with this, and the better of the two Batman books in that respect. Thus, although this isn't going to be the most exciting moment of this arc, it is still definitely an issue which I'd recommend picking up. Based on the results so far, James Tynion IV definitely knows what he is doing.

Coming off a really solid issue that had almost no Batman at all Issue 937 brings Batman back to center stage and the he begins to learn more about the plot of the colony. This arc has been consistently solid and its been really fun to read.

Still going strong, Tynion continues to build one of the better Batman stories in the last few years. It's no Court Of Owls or Batman and Son, but it's still a great opening arc. Despite a lack of any signifcant progress on the story, Tynion uses this issue to put a spotlight on the Bat-family. While the villains come off as a ripoff of Batman Inc, the idea of military intervention in Gotham still has potential to lead to some great stories. The art by Martinez is fantastic, and Raul Fernandez does a stellar job with the colours. This art team has been excellent so far, and this is one of Rebirths best-looking books.

out of the 2 Rebirth Batman comics out now, i still feel this is the better written of the two. definitely picking up the slack from last issue. will read better as a trade. the art is really really great!
