This is the most action packed issue of this book since Rebirth started, but James Tynion doesn't just rely on that and mail the rest in.  He uses the action to show how far the team has come from top to bottom and I really enjoyed it.  The story moves forward by showing us that the Colony may be an even bigger threat now that they've been put in a corner and Batman and Company are going to have their hands full very soon.  The issue looked great and I am still enjoying the hell out of this series. Detective Comics #938 is another entertaining entry into a series whose only detractor is a slightly long in the tooth first arc. If you are expecting the sensationalized and catastrophic type of stories that Scott Snyder gave us, this book is not that. Instead it is solid storytelling within a fan familiar structure. Listen, "Detective Comics" is not a groundbreaking book. It's not pushing the medium or having some deep, thought-provoking message to its readers. But it has become my favorite book in the DC Rebirth and do you know why? Because it's fun. It is fun to watch this cathartic action. It is fun to have these little character moments. This rebirth of Detective Comics isn't the flashiest book on the stands but it continues to astound, week after week, with its well-structured plots and lovingly full character work. This issue shows the Batmen, that is the the soldiers wearing Batsuit-like armor, brutally murdering terrorists. Batman is disgusted that his image and technology is being used for selfish gain and tries to escape. Unfortunately Batman is captured again! Batman is nearly executeduntil his new trainees come to therescue and all hell breaks lose. Plenty of fast pacedaction scenes are fill in the next panels and Batwomen finally confronts Colonel Kane about his agenda. With solid character moments, and exciting action, Detective Comics #938 continues the title's success. James Tynion IV has found a nice rhythm in rotating focus between the cast members and shows how much emotion can be added to a book in just a few pages. The art team of Alvaro Martinez, Raul Fernandez, and Brad Anderson keep the book's visuals dramatic and stirring. Its odd to say that of all the characters in Detective Comics, Batman is the one that gets the least amount of focus. James Tynion IV has done an awesome job on this title so far and his superb character work is what makes it a different Bat-Title. Detective Comics has quickly become my favorite team book of the relaunched Rebirth comics. The issue works in Batman without him taking to spotlight from the rest of the team. Now that the Bat Family is back together the question becomes what's their next move against the Colony? And just how far will Jake Kane go to save what he's built? Worth a look. Read Full Review

There's a great entertaining story going on here. It's fast paced and I feel like we've thrown in the deep end of things when it comes to the story. The artwork is done by Alvaro Martinez again, but with Al Barrionuevo backing him up (sadly not listed on the cover). Barrionuevo provides artwork for the flashback sequence, while Martinez does everything else. Both of them do a great job, nailing the look of the characters, the locations, and capturing the right mood. Barrionuevo was better at capturing the emotions of the scene he drew while Martinez did a really solid job at depicting the action and making it look so energetic. Like I said, this issue is great when it comes to balancing character work with awesome action. It's basically one big fight scene, as the Bat team fights their way to freedom. There is nothing being done in Detective Comics that has not been done before or better, but it is delivering an entertaining combination of elements. The mix of characters, regular delivery of exciting moments, and inclusion of sympathetic villains provides plenty to chew on. things are really getting tense now as the story builds to it's climax. . . . . . we get a backstory of Batwoman and her father that explain their motivations, and show that they are both pursuing the same goal if not by different means. but it adds a lot of depth the his motivations. . . . . . . . . . some nice moments showcasing each member of the Bat-family, each one gets their own moment to shine. . . . . . . . . this is without a doubt the strongest Batman title since the start of rebirth. and after reading 'All-Star Batman' i can easily say that 'Detective Comics' is by far the best of the current Batman titles on the shelf!!! . . . . . . . this issue only loses a few points due to a few bits were the art gets a bit sloppy, and loses it's structure. . . . . . . but with a rushed bi-weekly schedule that's unavoidable. more

Outside of a necessary flashback that describes more motivation for both the villain and Batwoman Issue 938 is most just a few action scenes. I expected this arc to wrap up here but for some reason they decided to keep it going. I've really enjoyed Detective comics to this point but this is the weakest issue yet if you ask me.
