Batman/Superman: World's Finest: #22 is overall a welcome improvement over the last two issues. The scope of "Heir to the Kingdom" is a test to Waid's mythological storytelling and how he wants to evolve Earth-0's World's Finest, whether it's modeling David/Magog after Kara Zor-El and Dick Grayson or leaning into somewhat obscure religious mythology and ideology. Batman/ Superman: Worlds Finest #22 very well may be the best issue in this entire run to date. It puts the puzzle pieces together well, offers a perfect balance of action and suspense, and couples those elements with outstanding illustrations that make this installment feel like a movie. Moreover, fans are given a plan for Gog that makes sense while also fitting with the original Kingdom Come and stands true to the character. Plus, we get to see the fruition of Magog as well as the potential of whats to come from this series and the ramifications it could have throughout the DC Universe. Now, I know its Christmas this week but while youre out, I think you need to go grab this issue on Tuesday. Dont wait. Go out over lunch if you have to and make it happen. This is a good book, but I'm hoping that the creative team can give me more interesting stuff to chew on than just heroes fighting against heroes and a somewhat generic evil god-type villain. But surely, should this happen, a war against Apokolips would alter the E22 timeline leading into Kingdom Come. (Seriously, I hope this is on a Kingdom Come adjacent world and that Magog gets tossed from this Earth to that Earth ...) Some fun stuff here. Some nice moments. Fantastic art. A perfect chapter of art and writing, this is a cinematic Kingdom Come sequel that probably could have been released as a company-wide mega-event miniseries, but is instead (fortunately) self-contained within the monthly World’s Finest series, making it DC’s best book on the stands these days. Waid and Mora are telling an epic story that will hopefully, when completed, proudly stand alongside the original KC miniseries and as a testament to the superb talent of this amazing storytelling duo!

MUST READ BOOK. I need to re-read Kingdom Come to get some timeline questions out of the way and refresh on history but this issue is hot fire. Excellent fights, art is (subjectively) perfect, and the lore dump was well done, thematic and well paced. Superman and Batman felt exactly as they should, with big props on Batman and KC Batman acting how they would. 10/10. I don't really have any complaints about this book. This is a (subjective) perfect addition to Kingdom Come. Once again I say Waid really goes give me a challenge of separating writer from the work. I love the book written by a terrible person and it does cause some cognitive dissonance. I still think it is worth reading though as Marvel and DC really are not putting out a lot of good books now. This might be the best? more

This comic is proof that regardless of the temperament of the writer, he has the knowledge and mythos of the DC universe well understood. My enjoyment of this comic could only be better if I had any passing memories of the "Kingdom Come" event of the 90s. Sadly, I don't! Still a great comic and set up for a potential, huge multiverse conflict (that's not a crisis event).

It saddens me to say that due to Mark Waid's colorful posts on X, I will be dropping this title after the conclusion of this storyline. I wish artists and writers would keep their posts apolitical, but here we are nonetheless. The issue had some good moments, especially the battle scene and the eventual pact between the two Supermen/Batmen. I need a little more info on David's betrayal and transformation into Magog.
