While I enjoyed James Tynion IV's run on Batman, Joshua Williamson's take is still a refreshing change from the Joker War and Fear State events. And Karl Kerschl's backup story with Maps is a delightful treat. While it's probably too much to hope for a permanent backup series with Maps, maybe DC should consider giving us a revival of Gotham Academy? Read Full Review

Batman #120 is a heavy hitter with a clever, atmospheric lead and a magically charming backup. While I wouldnt necessarily say that Abyss is a compelling character thus far, the story that surrounds them is, and Abyss themselves is likely to follow once we know more about them. If you're looking for a Batman story that has a B-movie edge Batman #120 is for you. There's a grit to this story as it builds towards a superhero showdown while developing supporting characters well too. This is a Batman that's got a primal edge well worth investigating. Read Full Review

Molina and Janin deliver some great visual moments throughout the issue. I love the use of shadow and darkness in the art and the moments leading to the finale are visually thrilling and tense. Read Full Review

Batman #120 is another issue that just nails down the fundamentals of this character so well. It also delivers some nice twists and turns building to that last page reveal. While a lot of the comics' reveals aren't surprising, they still nail the moment in their delivery. To do that when it's expected is impressive. For those who might have been turned off by Batman's recent escalation of events in recent years, now is a time to give this series a new look. Read Full Review

Dark Knight News - Max Byrne

    Feb 01, 2022

Batman #120 is a great new installment in the Williamson era, as it sets the table for some explosive moments to come. Robbing Batman of his sight is a bold move, which works on multiple levels. The issue is a potent mix of macho behavior with a couple of moments of real vulnerability. Issue #121 simply cannot come quick enough. Read Full Review

The bar wasn't terribly high, but Batman #120 as an issue is wildly better than anything in the previous run and the "Abyss" arc just keeps getting better. Read Full Review

Batman #120 expands the mystery of both Abyss and Batman Inc.  Joshua Williamson is taking his time, and while I am still intrigued, I was hoping to get more from this issue.  It looks great, but I hope we get some answers to what is happening before readers lose focus or interest in this story.
