A really great issue of Action Comics that people need to read. It is a fun take on how the public sees Superman. Even though this isn't a new storytelling trick, it is still a great read. It is also nice to finally move on from the Leviathan story and give Action Comics a place of its own. This is a fairly good sign of things to come. Read Full Review

So another good issue in this book. I have enjoyed the Action side of things consistently. And even this little side trip into the Naomi world continued to push everything forward. I have become accustomed to the work of Kudranski, a sort of rugged take on art. I hope we don't lose Robinson Goode though. She is a great addition to the Daily Planet. Read Full Review

It's been a while since we saw Superman in a mentor role at length, and the addition of Naomi to this arc let Bendis show off Superman's kinder, more compassionate side after many arcs where he's up against world-destroying menaces. Read Full Review

I am loving the dynamic between Naomi, Batman, and Superman. Superman and Batman feel like cool parents; Superman is the mother who only wants the best and Batman is the father who gets to have all of the fun. Bendis does a great job making Naomi feel youthful and not just telling us she is young. I am curious to see where Bendis takes the storyline, but I am definitely excited to see more of Naomi, Superman, and Batman together. Read Full Review

If you're a fan of Naomi...well, you get her here.  She's not really doing much or giving you any real new information...but she's here.  Beyond that, you might get a cliffhanger that could lead to something, but really, this is just another issue that may look great but offers little else. Despite some technical positives, Action Comics #1016 is a bit of a mess. If you're all in on Bendis you're probably buying two copies, but the more astute reader will see the flaws right away. While the Red Cloud could be a compelling challenge for the Man of Steel, Robinson Goode comes off as underdeveloped and somewhat forgotten. It doesn't help that Bendis seems more interested in validating Naomi than telling a good Superman story or making sure Batman appears in character. You should like Naomi because…, not because she's actually unique or interesting. Read Full Review

Action Comics was Bendis stronger of his two Superman titles, but right now theyre both badly in need of a creative overhaul. DC likely wont move on from Bendis headlining its flagship character for a while and theres dwindling hope Bendis knows how to sustain any kind of longterm success on the Superman books. Once again Bendis shows us why he shouldn’t write Batman and Superman books. Batman’s dialogue felt off and very odd in many ways as well as his actions. All of the people that were questioned, could have been cut in half.

"Damn right you are" The issue teases and sets up some interesting things for the future, with the Invisible Mafia deciding to leave the invisible part, but the issue itself... man, oh man. When BMB wants he can write some really good things, but when he doesn't, we get an issue like this, that is an absolute slog. The art ranges from awful to dreadfull, the dialogue made my eyes roll so much, that I was afraid that they will fall out my head and the worst thing is that this is a Superman book, and he's hardly in it. I have nothing against Naomi, I like her very much, but this sort of thing would be better suited for her own book.

Prelude: Bendis' Action Comics has remained one of his better books but let's see how that holds up this issue. The Good: I do like the grounded view that this issue brought with it. The Bad: Surprise, surprise, there was some horrendous dialogue here. Batman's voice was WAY off. Which is weird since Bendis writes Batman well in Batman: Universe... same thing happened with Robin in Event Leviathan compared to Superman... hmm. Well, the INVISIBLE Mafia aren't so invisible anymore. Great. Conclusion: While I do like having a more personal aspect to stories, shown within Metropolis' population here, the decent art and horrific dialogue and poor characterisation just ruin the story for me.

I'd say it's more of a Naomi story than a Superman one, but it doesn't add anything to Naomi either so I'm not sure what the point was. I could have been fine with a story that was centered on Naomi, but nothing of any interest or consequence happens here. The whole thing is just an excuse for Bendis to trot out his old trick of telling the story through the reactions of onlookers but there's clearly no new territory there for him anymore.

This issue was rather boring. I did find it interesting that Batman stated he had to deal with Bane and Catwoman along with some other issues. Makes me wonder if they are going to make Catwoman a villain again. Other then that the issue was pretty much a waste of time reading.

How do I put this nicely? I don't care. I don't care about the Red Cloud. I don't care about Bendis' Court of Owls. I don't care about Naomi. I don't care about anything Bendis is doing here. He's just as tired as his writing, from the looks of it. Only way I can rationalize the constant repetition in his work. And I don't just mean the dialogue. Characters, plots, all recycled again and again and again. I don't care.

Yet another "filler" issue where nothing of importance really happens. There is a lot of dialogue that is for the most part meaningless in the form of citizens of metropolis telling a reporter how "Bad Ass" the Red Cloud appeared fighting Superman. When the term "Alien Privilege" made an appearance in the dialogue the book hit an all time low. As far as villains go she would be a C-level villain at best in terms of interest or originality the character wouldn't motivate me to buy a book with her as the villain. Bendis shoehorns the character of Naomi into yet another issue because I guess he expects fans to care about her when again she is very VERY generic and if she is given her own series I can see it being canned within 16 months. T he art was better than last issue however that bar is very low. It's sad to see that 16 issues out from Action 1000 which was very well done Bendis appears to be running out of steam for this book and the proposed G5 change would be the worst thing they could do for the Superman brand. more

This issue exists only to promote Naomi and draw people to that title. It’s hardly about Superman despite it being one of his main ongoings, as thusly I would not recommend it to anyone interested in him. Last issue was serviceable, this one is not. As a Superman book it fails to deliver, it showcases him losing to a C-list villain only to have Naomi show him up and save the day. The art doesn’t really work and the dialogue contains some lines which are facepalm-inducing; a stand-out among them being Batman stating “I’m Batman” to have Naomi’s mother reply with “Damn right you are”. Has this man ever engaged in actual conversation. The premise of the issue, red cloud being a threat, is laughable as she should hardly register within Superman’s radar. However, as he is wont to do bendis forces his creation’s to be the “best”. more
