From the small shot of Jimmy’s tablet you can see him working in the Jameson/Parker dynamic. The blue bombs must also be silent because I don’t buy an entire building blowing up in Metropolis and Superman not even noticing what’s happening, it isn’t Gotham after all. The Lois/Sam Lane scene was pure contrived drama for the sake of “future†stories I bet, but feels so forced it just doesn’t work. You clip show analogy was particularly apt.

The Kobra Cult conspiracy ensnares Daily Planet photographer Jimmy Olsen, drawing the attention of the Man of Steel. But be careful, Superman-there's more lurking in the shadows of Metropolis than just a snake cult.

DC Comics News - Matthew Lloyd
Jan 30, 2019Hands down the best issue of Bendis's run on Action so far, but it's still not perfect as Bendis seems incapable of finding the right voice for Lois or how to handle the Lois and Clark relationship. That said, there's a lot more good in this issue as there's some real attempt at relationship exploration between Lois and her dad, plus the Jimmy Olsen bits are great and the art from Steve Epting is top-notch. Superman and Co. are still not safe from Bendis yet, but at least this issue is interesting and there was some genuine emotion. Read Full Review

Jan 30, 2019This is the first chapter of Leviathan Rising and it's a strong opening act. I wish Bendis were just cranking out two issues of Action Comics a month as he seems so much more locked in with the Superman universe here. Read Full Review

Jan 30, 2019While we kind of leave our previous story behind it seems, what we get out of this issue instead is what I've wanted from this series all along and I left this hoping that Action Comics can continue to be more like this. We had comedy, drama, action, romance and it all fit together so well and when you combine all that with awesome art....... Well, you have a winner. I'm not saying this issue is perfect, I'm only saying that it's on the right path. Read Full Review

Jan 30, 2019It speaks to the quality of the comic how entertained and downright moved at one point I was. I'm not surprised, since I'm definitely a Bendis fanboy. But I want to give some serious props to Steve Epting, especially in the dialogue with Lois and her father. Read Full Review

Feb 01, 2019I thought this was a very good start to the Leviathan arc and great characterization of Jimmy. Steve Epting brings some solid, clean art. But that Lois scene sticks out a bit like a sore thumb. Still, Leviathan seems like a good, big threat. Can't wait to see where this goes. Read Full Review

You Don't Read Comics - David Harth
Jan 30, 2019Action Comics #1007 is a complete and utter disappointment. This issue is supposed to be the kick off for Bendis big DC event, setting the table for what's to come, but there's nothing here. That said, there's always the chance that this story will get better as time goes on, but this is a very inauspicious beginning and it doesn't really bode well for what's to come. There are a few bright spots in this one, but not enough to elevate it to level that could be called good. As usual for Action Comics, the art is top notch and Bendis does have a grasp on Lois and Jimmy's characters in this issue, but other than that there's nothing to hook readers here. Read Full Review

Jan 30, 2019Hmm. Imconfused too. One might think Waller to be a victim here, but I cant help butfeel she somehow set Superman up. As to why, that may or may not be revealednext issue. This issue demonstrated Bendis inability to convey clear and/orreasonable motivation for his characters, so it may be an entirely skippablechapter in the current story arc. Read Full Review
