There are only a few things that really rattle Superman, and a deranged Kryptonian is one of them. As the abomination rips apart the city, Superman and Supergirl the only pure Kryptonians who can stand up to it do battle and Superman makes the risky move of bringing in an extremely dangerous tool that hasn't appeared in decades kudos to Waid for not only knowing his pre-crisis lore, but being willing to infuse some of that energy in the modern comics. Action Comics #1070 delivers on not just one but two stories that involve mysterious journeys into the unknown. Mark Waid is able to create a tense situation, keeping readers on the edge of their seats, while Mariko Tamaki shows why she's the best modern writer for Supergirl. What will Superman find in the void? What will Supergirl's mission entail? We only have to wait a week to find out! Read Full Review

Action Comics #1070 is a fun and entertaining read. It depicts a Superman that fits into the current status quo, but is at the same time undeniably classic with Silver Age elements used to great effect. Supergirl gets a solid outing as well in a story that features fantastic art from Skylar Patridge. Action Comics is a series you should be reading! Read Full Review

    Weird Science - Gabe Hernandez

    Oct 09, 2024

Action Comics #1070 starts a new adventure that prompts Superman to visit the Phantom Zone. Mark Waid's particular knack for quintessential superhero fare is on point, and Clayton Henry's bright, hopeful art is immaculate. But for a less-ideal backup, and one or two hand-waving plot hole covers, this issue is off to an excellent start. Read Full Review

I still can't believe this will he only 12 issues and Mark Waid hasn't yet had a full extended run on Superman or Action Comics. We need the definitive Waid Superman!

As a jumping on point it wasn't bad and had nice touches to the 50's which I enjoyed a lot. The Supergirl backup story was a bit of a miss for me but again it wasn't terrible. All in I would say I enjoyed my long awaited return to the World's greatest Comic..........JM

I really like Waid's voice on this first issue. It feels very confident. The backup by Tamaki poses questions, which are somewhat interesting, although I'm not hooked.

just finished Action Comics #1071, and it's a wild ride. Mark Waid's writing and Clayton Henry's artwork combine for an intense, action-packed issue. Superman's journey into the Phantom Zone brings out some seriously epic battles, like taking on a giant spider. The artwork really captures his powers in an awesome way. The subplot with Kong Kenan and Conner Kent at the Fortress of Solitude is interesting, but it feels a bit overshadowed by the main plot. The Supergirl backup story adds a nice twist, too. Overall, it's a solid issue with a strong story and great visuals, even if the Kong and Conner subplot could use more attention.

This weekly All-In Action Comics #1070 was a great way to start in with the new status quo ... only it wasn't ... as it takes place after Absolute Power but before the All-In Special - that bothered me. The reason I take issue with the timeframe is because the stakes are lower as we already know that everything will turn out fine. That being said - this was a fun story ... the ultimate resolution with where Superman goes at the end feels very done before - but that didn't take away from the fun. The battle against the Kryptonian mutant was exciting and felt like a good classic comic that anyone could pick up and enjoy. The crazy colored Kryptonite reminded me of the books I used to read back when I was real little. So there is somethi more

This was mediocre new start. Weird monster comes out of the phantom zone that Superman and Kara fight and take down with gold kryptonite with Jimmy Olsen. Superman is now going into the Phantom Zone to see what is going on inside. Was yawning throughout.

If you liked this issue, you must be on some serious drugs. The main story is mediocre at best and the back up by Tamaki is so bad it should have never been published. Ugh...This book is at all time lows in terms of writing direction and understanding of characters. SO many forced aspects of the book. DC's mentality is that you will have this shoved down your throat and you will like it.
