This is essentially a hard-sci-fi story, and it's a great change of pace from Superman's usual style. Read Full Review

Both stories are expertly drawn and written. The mysteries and intrigue continue to build as things aren't quite what they seem in either feature. The anticipation makes for a very compelling read which makes the weekly release of the title even more welcomed. Read Full Review

DC Comics News - Matthew Lloyd

    Oct 16, 2024

Action Comics #1071 is, once again, a fun, exciting and entertaining comic book that you should be reading. There's enough classic mixed with the current status quo to make this a Man of Steel that is accessible to all readers. Waid doesn't leave anyone in the dust. It's easy enough to jump in on both stories. Read Full Review

Get Your Comic On - Christopher Mills

With Action Comics currently being a weekly release, it must be captivating each week, and Mark Waid and Mariko Tamaki nail that with #1071. Waid reveals more about what's really taking place in the Phantom Zone with an insane reveal, and Tamaki shows that she understands what makes a great Supergirl story. Read Full Review

Supergirl Comic Box Commentary - Anj

I don't like the hypno-vision to begin with. But once added to the armamentarium and having seen her use it so easily, the writer has to tell or show us why Supergirl wouldn't use it.  Two chapters in. Lots of question. Lots of plot contrivances. The art as of now seems wasted here. Read Full Review

exploring the Phantom Zone seems like a novel idea to me, so really excited about how that's going to turn out. it feels like it has a lot of potential to spawn a ton of stories in the coming years. the artwork is really nice and clean and tells the story nicely. I liked the back up feature, but the theme of exploration seemed a bit too similar to the main story.

The "main story" in Action Comics 1071 was top notch ... a real winner for the All In initiative! The "a bit too familiar story" of Superman in the Phantom Zone played out much better then I expected after the last issue. Also the baseball game with Superboy and the Superman from China (not sure who that is) was classic superhero comic book fun, with a great "sub-plot cliffhanger". The twist at the end of the main story will have me coming back for more ... for now. I cannot get over how miserable the Supergirl backup story is to slog through. I almost just skipped it this week. It's so dull and uninteresting especially paired with such a solid main story - it pulls my rating for the books down a notch or two. DC needs to cut the bac more

I don't know if it's the bland art or the uninspired writing but either way if your an insomniac this new run by Mark Waid just might put you to sleep.
