Jumpscare #1

This is a great debut for Jumpscare! I'm heavily invested in what comes next! My first thoughts were that Allie was something akin to Harley Quinn. She is in attitude really, but she's so much more! I love the horror genre painted across the story of a super hero. Bunn develops his characters with ease and with great pacing. Luckert paints a beautiful, blood splattered story over soft pastels and cool greens and blues! It's an well rounded blast to read from cover to cover! Read Full Review

Jumpscare is such a clever fusion of horror, superhero, comedy and drama that all come together with a brilliant fusion that feels remarkably refreshing. What Bunn and Luckert are doing works on so many levels. Its a really, really good first issue. If Bunn and Luckert can keep it going, it could potentially be one of the better debuts for 2025. Dark Horse's new series not only extends Bunn's story from Beyond Mortal, it is a commentary on some critical complaints and components of the scary movie. This includes using mash-up names of several real world films we've come to love to the saturated, red corn syrup splashes that Luckert uses to showcase Jumpscare in action. Similar to what Schwarzeneggers's Last Action Hero did with that genre, Jumpscare #1 offers the horror film a fresh feel with a furious and funny final girl. Read Full Review

Jumpscare #1 is a solid debut. It's a fun comic that has a love of horror but also a love of superhero comics. It's melded together for a concept that reminds me a bit of a horror version of Marvel's Slapstick in some ways. Plot Empire City is recovering from the Leviathan Invasion as told in the comic Beyond Mortal, where some Old Gods attacked the city with a series of monsters and the superheroes managed to stop them but some being remained in the city hidden and that is when they choose Allie to transfer their power to her, just when she is under attack by some thugs, since the city is suffering a wave of post-invasion crime. Allie is a lover of horror movies, especially those with many "jumpscares", this terminology in film jargon refers to scenes with moments of action/horror in movies that make you jump out of your seat in fear. Allie comes from a super religious family that does not even approve of her taste for movies. For some time now, Allie has used these demonic powers to fight evil, whether it be criminals or remnants of the invasion. Her powers consist of magically materializing weapons from her imagination that allow her to eliminate the enemy. She uses all kinds of weapons that have appeared in horror classics like Evil Dead, Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween, etc. But her coolest power is teleporting to places where no one is looking and also her super strength. Allie has become a heroine loved by social media and teenagers, but her parents spread propaganda against her, until they send an assault team to kidnap her, but in reality what Allie's parents want is for her to save her perfect/angelic sister Rebecca who was kidnapped. Magnificent new series that mixes cosmic terror with superheroes that makes brilliant tributes to horror movie classics. Art It is very detailed, where facial expressions convey a lot, as well as body language that offers a mix of superhero poses with classic horror movie movements. Summary Allie is given immense power that she uses to fight evil thanks to her imagination nourished by thousands of horror movies. Exciting, intense, entertaining and terrifying new series more

I must have been reading a different book than everyone else. For me, this was a very average book, while other people say it's perfect with a 10 score. The character is not likable and he isn't even using real movies to give her powers, which means that there are no limitations to what he can have her do. There's always an unlimited bag of tricks.
