John Constantine: Hellblazer #5

This is another spectacular issue of Constantine. Readers of old and new will love this. Spurrier and Bergara have created something wonderful. It has to be said, during these times, that what little relief and entertainment we can get from real life are more necessary than ever. Is this worth risking going outside to get? Dont be daft. Is it worth a digital buy, absolutely. In 24 pages, Spurrier and Bergara managed to distract me from whats going on in the world. At the end of the day, what more can you ask for at a time like this? Tonally very different from the storyarc that came before, this has been a lighter and funnier storyarc. Changing artists to reflect the differences is a stroke of genius. The Hellblazer world and mythos continues to expand. Spurrier manages to take our expectations and still shock us with twists and turns. Bergara’s art compliments the tone. The artwork, however, left a little to be. desired. It is not that the artwork is bad. It's actually pretty good. It just doesn't fit this character at all. Maybe the art will be more suited for another book. Read Full Review

Matias Bergara's depiction of s**t demons and a few particularly twisted moments of violence elevate the second half of this particular story, and gives readers reason enough to stick around, even as Hellblazer struggles to avoid the obvious in favor of something interesting. Read Full Review

This whole story arc was goddamn amazing. But despise the serious tones of the last story arc,this was actually very funny and particularly this issue builds up so many important things for the future,and I like to say again that Spurrier is a person that knows the character of John Constantine very well. And Tommy is a really fun character PS: The Art is amazing.

Funny at times, serious at others. Some nice nods to past characters again. Matias Bergara's art gives it a completely different feel to the first story-arc. It's not dark and gritty, but bright and colourful. He is brilliant at facial expressions, especially Constantine's. I'm intrigued by the mystery that's building. This title is the first book I read on release day. Can't wait for issue six!

Writing has been incredible so far; Constantine's 'out there' solutions to various problems have been really entertaining. Only real complaint is that I do not like Bergara's art style as much. The designs of Constantine's face/hair felt off-putting.

Solid funny issue, made me chuckle on number of occasions. Art not the best but story n dialogue more than makes up for it. V Interested to see what happens next
