In X-Men: The Trial of Magneto #4, Magneto's almost nowhere to be seen. The real focus is on the Scarlet Witch as she struggles to get herself together in the middle of all this chaos. However, the comic raises more questions than it answers, and the process of how Wanda resolves it, especially with her sons, is poorly executed. X-Men: The Trial Of Magneto #4 is certainly a choice. This one definitely isn't it anymore for anyone who wanted an X-Men story. It's yet another piece of apologia for Scarlet Witch, but it does have some good moments. Williams is a good writer, but this book is just mystifying. The art is the best part of the thing, at least. Wow I gotta say I sure am glad I didn't have the same reading experience as others. I loved this! From page one I was really impressed with the writing style and great character moments for Wanda. The story was deep and rich with emotions. Wanda grew as a character learning a lot about herself. The artwork was phenomenal! Every page warranted a pause to just take in the beautiful images and sticking colors. This was my favorite issue of this series so far and I look forward to the next one

I feel like this series should be titled "The Death of Wanda Maximoff" or something instead of "Trial of Magneto". The latter seems a tad misleading for how much Magneto is actually in this story. Also, I feel like Williams was on a time crunch when she wrote this issue. Everything feels sloppily thrown together. There are some cool moments, but the pacing kept me from enjoying them.

Honestly, the single biggest problem with this book is its title. It's not really a trial in any conventional sense of the word, Magneto is almost assuredly innocent and was never believably a suspect to begin with. It's really more of an exploration of Wanda's psyche, her role among the mutants and whether or not they can forgive her for M-Day. And those elements of the book have been pretty good! The Krakoan era has positioned her as an unforgivable monster, a literal ghost story, among the mutants and it would be nice to see Wanda move forward as something more than a punching bag. This series feels like it's trying to reconcile her entire past all at once, and while I think the execution has been clunky in parts, the idea is admirab le and something I'm on board with. There's a lot hinging on this last issue and I hope Williams can mostly stick the landing. more

To call this above average requires an almost slavish buy-in to Leah Williams' eccentric interests and more eccentric storytelling style. And as others have rightly noted, "The Trial of Magneto" is one of the biggest misnomers in modern comics.

Hard to believe issue #1 could be as good as it was and three issues later, we have… this. “Trial of Magneto” is definitely false advertising. Should really be called “Scarlet Witch: Making It Up as We Go Along.”

I remember when Exodus was telling the story of Wanda around a campfire with young mutants. She worked so well as a ghost story in the age of Krakoa, but leave it to a Disney+ show to come along and force a redemption arc. I liked how this story began. It seemed like an interesting detective story and utilized X-Factor in a way that I think Williams initially intended. Now that we know everything going on with Wanda was because of magic, that just goes and undermines everything X-Factor could have contributed. I just can't understand the reasoning or motivation in this story.

Trash Over the top characterizations, it was so funny when Wiccan exploded at Wanda saying he defended her his whiole life. It's incoherent stories and charcterizations. Wanda doesn't remember doing bad things because she was ressurrected with only younger memories. Wanda already accepted responsability for her actions and move on. This mini isn't adding anything interesting to Wanda. Also Magneto is so bad on this mini

my problem wasn't even just the characterisations but the lack of direction and godawful plot Not many comics have been so shit they've made me angry, but this is certainly one of them, even Bendis could have made a better story out of the concept

Agree, the story is all over the place. A lot of filler was put: Magneto fighting x-men and Avengers, the Kaijus. It was obvious that Magneto didn't killed Wanda since the first issue. The investigation was dumb too, Wanda is a magical user, of course, magic could be involved. So they are back on square one of the investigation, I don't think anyone even care about the murderer at this point, even Wanda is back to life. So what is the point?

I agree. Oh god that Kaiju fight was fucking dreadful, when they showed up I honestly didn't think that was part of the same issue, I thought there was some sort of printing error. Imo the murder mystery aspect it started out with was pretty good, but it just descended into utter braindead garbage, with the magneto fight and then fucking kanjis and wanda meeting her future self

Other writers turning X of swords into a dance off event didn't help at all. I mean I liked some of hickman's x-men run, but overall it felt way too disjointed and messy for me

it gets worse with every title. I've never seen a screenwriter as incompetent as Leah William, the writing is boring, the script doesn't make sense, Wanda is looking like a slob with no neurons in her head. the way she has no idea what character she's writing. if it had an award for the worst comics ever made, this comic would be champion
