X-Men #27 does a great job bringing the attention back to the way the team is tackling the war with Orchis. Shadowcat once again steals the show with her rescue attempt to break out Cyclops and Juggernaut from Orchis' facility. That along with how the ending of X-Men/Fantastic Four was brought back into play made this another strong comic book in the Fall of X direction. Read Full Review

X-Men #27is a stepping stone issue that progresses little details down the pipeline, sampling some fun character dynamics and setting up bigger plot beats to come. In that regard, it's a standard chapter in a larger saga that will prove essential to the logistics of whatever 'Fall of X' culminates with, but on its own is just fine. However, it's held back significantly by the art's lack of visually interesting paneling or strong line work. This is a still a fun read, but one that lacks the visual oomph needed to elevate it. Duggan is hardly the first writer to tell stories about conditions and times more dire than those he has lived through. However, the coopting of contemporary watchwords that have already run their course and other unsubtle parallels makes the entire endeavor feel dated and too literal. Read Full Review

Let's just get this out of the way now. Noto's art was fantastic here and it has to be the best part of this issue by far. Other than that, Duggan's story was a solid side quest of sorts, as others have been describing it. I did like the interactions between the Fantastic Four and Rasputin IV, though I'm not sure how much we needed this issue. At least we got that great art from Noto and an awesome cover from Joshua Cassara, who's art I'm looking forward to seeing in the couple of issues.

The X-Men take an amusing detour to visit the Fantastic Four. Love the focus Rasputin IV received here. She’s one of my favorite characters introduced in the Krakoa era.

I really liked the resolution to the Reed mystery and thought the Terrigen Mist retcon excuse was great but the rest of the story and characterizations were pretty corny.

On the one hand, I'm pleased with all the action-oriented plot development and the solid serving of Phil Noto art. On the other hand, I actually liked Rasputin IV more before this issue's blatant shilling for her.

While the previous issue was used as a vehicle to set up Emma’s “wedding,” Kate Pryde and crew are back in the limelight with a…sidequest? Kate’s opening scene in the Orchis facility felt like we were finally getting some plot movement but things took a turn towards physical humor when Rasputin, Ms. Marvel, Talon and Synch take a field trip to visit the Fantastic Four and see if they can unlock Reed Richards’ memories. The tone and color palette were really jarring pivots from the tension and darkness we’ve come to expect from this era. I wish we spent more time with what’s going on with Cyclops and Juggernaut’s attempted breakout instead of seeing Rasputin continuously send Ben Grimm flying from a punch (ok, it was still kind of hilarious). X-MEN #27 would make for a fun padding issue if the stakes of Fall of X weren’t so high. more

Beautiful Phil Noto art. But I can only hang on so long to this title while the lead characters are freaking Ms. Marvel, Rasputin IV, Talon and Synch. I need my A-list X-Men please.

Rasputin is a horrible character. I’d much rather have seen the Juggernaut fight Nimrod than Rasputin punching Ben Grimm for no reason.

The ShadowKat stuff was great, but the part with the Fantastic Four was absolutely terrible. The dialogue was unbelievable. The art was clunky. The way they are pushing Rasputin IV is annoying.

This issue was a shame. He used the cyclops as bait. Syncro and Talon don't have a good participation. And Rasputin was anti-Semitic. The only one who escapes is Kate.
