Before she was Magik, Illyana Rasputin was just a kid whom Limbo chewed up and spit out seven years older. So it's no surprise that, at 15, she wants nothing to do with the X-Men...nothing to do with the New Mutants...and nothing to do with her own powers. It's not even surprising that she runs away... but where - and who - she ends up? Well, that's something you've never seen before.

This is too good to be a one-off: it needs to be a monthly or miniseries. The story is the best magical Marvel tale I've read in decades. The visuals capture the mundane world and the magical realm flawlessly. Marvel, make more for these characters with these creators as soon as you can. It's money in the bank. Highest possible recommendation. Read Full Review

This powerful, character-driven story detours away from its high concept to drill down into its initial "what if Dr. Strange took in a foundling Illyana?" scenario. It's all the better for the zoom-in. The script balances perfectly between strong character insight and razor-sharp wit. The art is sketchy with characters and formidable with settings and magic - it blesses the world of the Sorcerer Supreme with a perfect, often-overlooked sense of wonder. The creators attacked this premise with absolute commitment, and the result is a great story that's deeply satisfying in itself while also crying out for continuation.

Festival sorry to the fan of Illyana, but I really hate this character. The first time I encounter her she was a little girl dying of Legacy virus. I read some New mutant with her but without liking her. I don't like much her return in New X-men Academy X, and what follow (My eyes rolled when she was a Phoenix five). Even my who like much of the exiles didn't like the Illyana in the Exiles. So I chose to not take this issue. But I was in the shop with only 3 comics (The rest will by disponible only tomorrow in my other shop), so I take it. And I really love what I read. The title is badly chosen because even at the end she isn't a Sorcerer Supreme, but in the road to be. I love that much of the book & the ending was positive for once (I re more

OVERVIEW What If?: Magik #1 a) Writing/Script= 8.2/10 (L. Williams) b) Art= 8.4/10 (Filipe Andrade) c) Colours= 9.0/10 (Chris O'Halloran) Average= 8.53/10 Wow! What a What If? book. Leah Williams? Who is she? Whoever she is, i can tell that she is a very talented writer! I loved this book! The art by Filipe Andrade at first looked rushed but as you keep seeing it, you will notice that it is a distinct drawing style of his. The art quickly grew on me and reminded me more of an indie comic book art. The colours by Chris O'Sullivan was the standout! The colours really pop out of the pages. So good! Loved it. Leah Williams on the other hand did a good job with the script. I love it, when superhero comic books add real life/matu more

Was expecting to hate this based on the writer and the character, but this managed to be a compelling story nonetheless.
