As a series Venom has been big, bold, and unrelenting. Since page one of the relaunch, it simply refused to slow down. Now as we shift into that second arc we get a more character-centric story that may lack the thrilling nature of previous installments but what is being established could lead to a much more fulfilling story. Overall, this was an interesting installment in Cates' run. As fantastic as his ideas are and his deftness with dialog and imagery, there seems to be some needed work in execution. This is a complete change of pace and, for that, is worth reading and thinking on. What was the team wanting to accomplish? Was it purely expositional narrative needing to be knocked out of the way to get to the meat of the arc? These answers may come with time, but even if they don't, this series is worth sticking with. That was awesome. New artist is as good as Ryan was. And the plot is just great too. Worried that it might slow down after the first arc? No need to. BUY THIS COMIC.

Same DAMN Good writing on display here. Maker sets up a very promising story arc. Art is perfect in every way for this issue and these characters. Ibans rendition of Venom was so hellish and fantastic; the fight scene between the Makers men and Venom had incredible flow and style. I cant help but feel grateful that this Character is finally being given the treatment he deserves. Venom Heads Rejoice!

Continues to be very intriguing and Iban Coello is at home here doing amazing stuff. Cates throwing a few tidbits like the green saliva's significance are nice!

Eddie wakes up trapped in a Marathon Man interrogation situation thanks to the Maker. It's a left-field turn in the larger plot, but the beat-by-beat story is a thrilling potboiler. Family mysteries, symbiote trouble, and gigantic trust issues paint Eddie into quite the desperate corner; what comes next is likely to be spectacular. A shift to a new artist - with plenty of skill - suits the change in tone.

Prelude: After the first arc of Venom, Cates has a lot to live up to. Now that we're starting The Abyss, let's see how Cates handles it. The Good: I'm intrigued by the Maker being here. Interesting that we're going down the path of the Symbiote manipulating Eddie. Iban Coello, while he isn't on the level of Stegman, does a good job on art. The Bad: It's pretty polarizing from the previous issue and I'm not sure that I like it. Conclusion: Well, it's a very different tone of story from Rex. I just need to see more but it's quite a step down in quality.

Great art but the only thing that impressed me in this issue was seeing the Maker. Still confuse why any other's who held the Symbiot can't help Eddie, like Marc Gargan, Lee Price, or Peter Parker.
