    ComicBook.com - Charlie Ridgely

This issue of Venom rewrites, and in some cases reveals, the entire history of Symbiotes. That sounds incredibly boring, but it's not. In fact, it's utterly fascinating. Read Full Review

VENOM #4 tells the previously unrevealed true backstory of the Klyntar race. It's a fantastic read from start to finish. Donny Cates writes a superb script and Ryan Stegman, once again, blows me away with his phenomenal artwork. Read Full Review

Since I haven’t written about it in a while, I feel comfortable saying this again: this is going to be the definitive Venom run. It’s got so much going for it everywhere you look, and it always leaves you wanting more in the best way. It’s objectively one of the most important books to the character in all his thirty years. I can’t wait to see where it goes from here. Go buy it. #GodIsComing Read Full Review

This is a cannot miss issue, that explores Venom's past, fills in a lot of the gaps of the character and really solidifies Venom as much more than just a Spider-Man villain. Read Full Review

    Weird Science - Branden Murray

Venom takes a time out from focusing on the heroes to dive deep into the origins of Knull exploring his distant past, more recent past, and reveals why he's so powerful and back on a mission of redemption in his own mind. Cates and Stegman continue to deliver a high quality product that should please any new, or long time Venom fan ... hell even a regular run of the mill horror fan would have fun here to be honest. Venom #4 is a far slower issue than the prior, but it sets up a new history and villain for the symbiotes. Its an engaging new story, and it redefines the symbiotes for the Marvel Universe. This comic definitely comes recommended. Give it a read. Read Full Review

Very gratifying single issue but felt like it had very minor short-term effects despite some very big long-term effects including a Symbiote origin retcon and at long last an origin for All-Black the Necrosword. The issue itself makes a great one shot but I feel it's a weak link as part of an arc. Read Full Review

Black Nerd Problems - Chris Aiken

    Jul 27, 2018

The Venom series is moving in a weird direction. Some days I like it, while other days I feel it's doing too much. Sure, Cates is doing something different, and Stegman's art makes certain scenes look like something out of a hellish nightmare. However, messing with origin stories is a mixed bag. It paints the character in new light and sometimes it's not necessarily for the better. Hopefully, the conflict evolves into the horror story I want to see. If not, I'm just left asking "What's the point?" Read Full Review
