The Ultimates continues to impress, even if the new Ultimate Universe begins to lose its momentum. I'm hoping Camp and Frigeri can stick the landing on the finale, as this kind of optimistic energy can only go downhill, I fear. Read Full Review

There is so much of what Deniz Camp and Juan Frigeri do in this issue that should be an exciting lead into The Maker's return. Unfortunately because of how poorly the Ultimates have been built as a team what Iron Lad leads the team in doing just does not hit. Read Full Review

The Ultimates #18 makes a lot of noise but struggles to turn the racket into actual substance. If the measure of value is time spent versus story earned, this issue is content to trade genuine momentum for angry speeches and rushed montage. Plot Iron Lad/Tony Stark delivers a televised and streamed message to the entire planet, speaking about his crusade and how they have managed to reduce the criminal activities of the Council of Maker, this criminal organization. Iron Lad asks for the help of all citizens, with and without powers, to join them in stopping The Maker upon his return. Tony Stark broadcasts this message from the Triskelion, his base of operations in space, whose location Nick Fury has and is preparing to monitor. This speech summarizes all the characters and events that have occurred in the 17 issues of this saga, serving as a conclusion because The Maker has just arrived. Everything is set for the end of this saga with Ultimate Endgame, which premiere s in December. Art It is organic and textured, offering appropriate dynamism and dramatic tone, with certain manga influences. It’s ok. Definitely not as good as issue 16. This series doesn’t tackle enough of the issues around the comforts that create complacency that allow for consolidation of resources. Who shows up for the revolution if we lose our high quality distractions like streaming, the NFL and Below Deck? What if it’s the Bears year?? It’s has an overly simplistic moral view around what allows consolidation of power to happen. The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter. It rehashed the current story and did a lot of talking. While it was pretty well done for the most part, it still just was a lot of talking.
