Thor #14

Overall, the Prey mini-series has really given the Cates Thor run some real weight in story. The stylistic choice to bring back an obscure character like Donald Blake and empower and twist his being to become a dark version of Thor was an absurdly great move. Maybe Im a sucker for a good old-fashioned evil doppelgnger. Where Cates takes this series from here, who knows? Ultimately, a simple task by Loki was deemed enough to end this turmoil, which I feel like could have happened at anytime much sooner. Granted, one would argue a battle-torn Blake made the switch-a-roo a bit more manageable. Yet, the switch never really happens. Its presented as a big deal that THOR and Blake cant occupy the same space at the same time. Nonetheless, the issue concludes as if its now somehow possible. Read Full Review

An epic conclusion to the Prey storyline, it’s clear the ramifications from this issue will carry on well into the future. All of the main characters have undergone some big changes and growth across the series, and especially during this mini-arc. Wherever Donny Cates takes this tale, it’s clear that Thor, Loki etc will be greatly changed by it. This is a Thor story told by a writer with a clear reverence for the character and his history, and drawn by an incredible artist who fills each panel with so much detail, what’s not to love? Thor #14 wraps up nicely, and serves as a fitting end to a wonderful arc. Donny Cates continues to give fans what they want with Thor. Why words? You saw my 10. What an end to the arc. I mean this run is incredible. Everytime it keeps me guessing. The art once again fits like a glove. This team is like a raging bull, just get out of their way. All hail Donny "The Scribe" Cates!! Really excited to see what comes next. Another breather? A new twist? The set ups and antecipation go in different directions. Many interesting directions. Why are you still reading this? Place this on your pull list, order it right now man!

Another great Thor arc by this creative team, wasn't expecting that ending. kind of wish writers would stop dumping on Odin, but I'm sure Donny has something good planned for him.

Somewhat of a brutal end to this fantastic storyline. Donald basically getting his ass kicked by Thor was satisfying, as Thor showed his might as king. I also very much appreciated the love for Beta Ray Bill in the beginning, as he’s one of my favorite comic book characters. I don't know what else to say here other than the fact that Donny Cates and Nic Klein are two-for-two on great Thor 6-issue arcs.

This was great, Cates was treading water these last few issues but he ended this arc on a really high note, good job, it's just such a shame that we only have one more issue of Nic Klein's art.

I loved this Arc. As someone who didnt know much about Dr. Blake I loved this Arc and really like this style of storytelling for Thor. For so long hes had a single voice this version of him feels new in the good way.

Thor, adorning the Destroyer armor, beats Blake within an inch of his life. As Odin prepares to erase the stain of Blake from the realms, Loki repairs Blake’s staff, allowing Thor to truly return. Emerging from the Destroyer armor, Thor dismisses Odin and seeing Blake as a brother, spares his life. Not allowing his crimes to go unanswered, Loki bestows upon Blake his former tit le as God of Lies as a giant serpent descends upon bound Blake dripping poison into his eyes. Damn, Loki is brutal! This was a great story arc. It was perfect that the final showdown was a total beat down. Odin calling upon Mjolnir only for it to be intercepted by Beta Ray Bill was an awesome scene. I hope wherever we see Odin again, presumably over in Bill’s current miniseries, he retains his Odin/Sam Elliot appearance. After Donny Blake absorbs a brutal amount of clobbering, he finds himself at the mercy of the restored Allfather Thor. But Loki steps in at the 11th hour and charts a mythological fate for Blake. The prose is decent, the art is strong, and the plot and character developments are fascinating. This was not my favorite arc but I really admire where the author steered it here at the end.

It was pretty solid. The story was good until the end and then it just wrapped pretty quickly and uninspired. I did like it overall. It had great art and some great scenes. Just that ending...

This ending was sorta underwhelming? Odin 🤝 Tony Writers making something their fault. Difference here is Thor is always cleaning up after Odin, its a tired troupe. I'm not a fan of what happened.. Loki and Thor seem to feel sorry for Donald, so they stop Odin from killing him… but then they torture him for eternity. What?

It is in character for Loki and Donald killed a lot of people, him getting away scot-free would've been wrong.

Two major arcs in a row where Cates doesn't land the ending. The book is still decent but I'm hoping there's more to it soon than just "the BIGGEST and BADDEST thing oh nevermind its over".

I'm loving the Cates/Klein run and had been really into this story, although this conclusion lacked in several significant ways. Donald Blake had been set up as a nigh unstoppable foe, yet he ends up being defeated rather simply. Also, the arc did a nice job making Blake a sympathetic character, but the fate he endures here comes across as incongruously cruel. Perhaps Cates and Klein have more in store for us later in the run. For now, this one is simply a bit disappointing.

This is totally weird and unpleasant. The story stands in the place of the decadent gods. Thor opposes Odin’s old-fashioned, cruel way of doing things like always, which is good. Then the writer made Loki do Odin’s job... WTF? What’s wrong with you three？It seems that the father and two sons all need Psychological treatment.
