Jun 12, 2019I dont mean to overshadow writer Donny Cates in praising Moores contributions here, because it should also be commended how well hes structuring his Guardians of the Galaxy run. Silver Surfer: Black is a spinoff, of sorts, to his Guardians saga, but I think it also stands on its own as a neat little Silver Surfer story that can be read divorced of that context. Even if I think Moores art functions so well as visual storytelling that it almost renders the text redundant, Cates has a pretty good handle on the character and his voice that will serve him well as the series continues. If you are not a fan of surfer himself, I promise you that you won't be disappointed in the art. Tradd Moore is perfect on this series. And of course if there is Donny Cates - there is a Knull. Can't wait for a second one

Prelude: Well Cates has me intrigued from Guardians of the Galaxy. I wonder what this will tie into for the Cates-verse. The Good: I love how this ties into Cates' other stories. Obviously, it only happens due to Guardians but using Knull is a great way to tie things together and build his threat in Venom. Trad Moore's art is godlike. I hadn't seen anything from him before hand but man, his work here is out of this world. Good explanation for what happened in the black hole in Guardians #1. Really interesting look into the Surfer's character. The Bad: Nothing. Conclusion: A brilliant start for Cates and Moore. It's enjoyable, looks great and sets up a lot of intrigue.

It's good! It's not a $1000 good but it's $4 good. Cates and Moore are great! I saw that last page coming halfway through the issue. Not bad but It didn't have the punch it should've had....Still looks awesome and worth reading.

Yes, please. As expected, Cates writes a great story and Moore's artwork really suits it. It's trippy without being too incomprehensible, it's smart without being too pretentious. Reminds me a lot of Black Bolt's solo series we had not too long ago, which I've absolutely loved. Hopefully this book can continue the momentum going.
