You Don't Read Comics - David Harth

Savage Avengers #1 is a clinic in how to make a perfect first issue. Everything about it hits just right. It's exciting and well-paced and leaves readers with a perfect cliffhanger ending. The team of Pepose, Magno, Grundetjern, and Lanham pulled off something special with this first issue, and no matter where they take the book next, it's going to be amazing. Read Full Review

    AIPT - David Brooke

    May 16, 2022

Marvel Comics has another surefire hit on their hands with Savage Avengers, a book that understands its characters and puts them first before laying delicious action and intrigue on top of them. For anyone who grew up with comics in the '80s or '90s, Savage Avengers is a great time. Read Full Review

Savage Avengers #1 is a great debut for this incarnation of the team. There are tons of great fights, each of the characters gets a moment to shine in the issue, and the book perfectly sets up a major dilemma for the next issue. Highly recommended. Read Full Review

So the "old order changeth once more, though constants remain as always. Pepose takes the "changeth idea an applies it to key parts of the story, not happy to mix up the team. Savage Avengers, very much like Justice League Dark is an odd book at times, with a mix of ideas and characters that shouldn't fit; surely lady Daredevil is better suited to the mean streets of Hell's Kitchen instead of getting mixed up in timey-whimey stuff? Still I am sure fans of the characters involved could have their curiosity piqued and in doing so, could be in for a pleasant surprise. Read Full Review

Big Comic Page - Craig Neilson-Adams

    May 18, 2022

At the end of the day, this is a fun series that crackles with excitement and enthusiasm from the entire creative team. For my money though, it's the final page twist that really kicks things into a whole new gear, guaranteeing that I'll be picking up issue two as soon as it goes on sale. Well worth a look, even if you're a MCU Conan denier like myself. Read Full Review

    May 18, 2022

Savage Avengers #1 is a good read. It's not perfect, due to the verbosity of it all and there are moments when you are keenly aware you're reading introductions, but there is a lot of appeal here. Read Full Review

    Graphic Policy - Brett

    May 18, 2022

Savage Avengers #1 is a solid start to the series which brings together a motley crew. It takes the Conan + team dynamic we've seen before and shakes it up just enough to stand out from the previous volume. It also plays with a plot we've seen many times (robot from the future sent back to erase someone) but does so in a way that's fun. It's the start of what should be an entertaining adventure and with recent Conan news, a possibility anything's on the table. Read Full Review

    Lotusland Comics - Hank Rea

    May 19, 2022

Pepose's Marvel debut is a successful trial by fire with a jam-packed issue that is balls-to-wall fun and non-stop action. This unexpected eclectic group of characters is primed for even more conflict as they're bound together for the foreseeable future. There is room to grow and the storytelling is wide open for more enjoyable chaos. 'Savage Avengers' is a blast and one of this week's best comics.  Read Full Review

This first issue has a very clear idea of what it wants to be, and does a great job of expressing that want and making it happen. I just think it bites off a bit more than it can chew, wanting to include too much and having to jam it all in there. Read Full Review

    Geek'd Out - Nico Sprezzatura

    May 18, 2022

Carlos Magnos art at least fits the tone of the script, with heavy lines and a lot of black space accented by Espen Grundetjerns dark colors. Savage Avengers is definitely not a lighter book geared towards younger readers, and Magno takes it to the line of a parental advisory that doesnt require being bagged on the shelf. But that being said, I almost find myself wishing it did take it that far, which would give it slightly more novelty than it has in its existing state. Read Full Review
