But Why Tho? - Collier "CJ" Jennings

It is a must-read, not only for Black History Month but for all comic fans. Comic Crusaders - M.R. Jafri
Feb 25, 2021The rest of the stories are all well done and some are just so different in their perspective that it feels like an independent comic rather than a Marvel book. It is interesting how little politics comes into play here. The political injustice is only emphasized when it's taking place in other nations. The injustices within our own borders just are barely touched upon. That being said the real power here is all of the incredible perspectives and amazing artwork emphasizing these rich, realized characters from so many walks of life. This book is a wonderful start but we definitely need more of this in mainstream comics. Not only diverse voices and artists but also a feeling of editorial freedom where creators can go beyond traditional stories and perspectives. Read Full Review

These snapshots aren't the grand stories that we often find in the pages of an ongoing series but smaller moments that speak to the core of the characters. To an extent, the stories feel less self-indulgent than the previous Marvel Voices comic. The creators focus more on the moments they are trying to convey and the character. This book was great when I read it - I especially enjoyed the innocence of the "girl's night" story, just to see those young heroes be out of their elemenet for a change, and just let their guard down instead of puffing out their chest all the time to try and measure up to their idols. And Ridley's Spidey, was another slam dunk for a week that included another great short from the legend by way of Batman Black & White. And it's hard to get praise for a short through this medium, but Ridley is a vet who flexes his skills in this short like he was writing another installment to "American Way". - Audiomack.com/cvrthebard

A diverse pack of creators throw up short, simple strips celebrating some of Marvel's more melanin-rich heroes. The folks who dare to actually try telling a story do a decent job of it, but this is more about making statements than entertaining readers. The strips aren't exactly groundbreaking, but the statements are worth making. For example, Nnedi Okorafor's Venom strip is rather weak tea as a comic story. But if it gets you to Google "EndSARS," it's done good work.

This wasn't a great collection of stories. In fact, the only one I'd recommend is the very first one by John Ridley. And that'll take you all of 10 seconds to read.
