You Don't Read Comics - Christopher Landers
Nov 23, 2019In the end, this is yet another great chapter in the endgame of Aarons work. There is a visible end looming over the horizon, and it doesnt necessarily promise to be a happy one. After all, when someone sets out to tell the final adventure of Thor at the end of the universe, its not likely youre going to end on anything but a bittersweet note. The contrast in styles is perfectly executed between the adventure of Thor's granddaughters and Thor's battle against Gorr. One issue from its conclusion, Aaron's Thor run continues to be The Best. Aaron does that thing he loves doing where he introduces a team of one-off characters who have such great designs and gimmicks that they feel like they could headline their own book--it's great as always. And the final page is KILLER, thanks to the pure genius of Esad Ribic. Seriously, the man is an artistic god. Long live Gorr.

Prelude: King Thor has been going wonderfully so far, let's see how Aaron goes on this issue. The Good: The Goddesses of Thunder are back and boy is it great. I loved seeing the Gods of Answered Prayers. Such a great callback and something that makes sense with Aaron's themes in this series. Ribic's art was great in this issue. The Bad: Gorr is becoming a bit too much, "Look what I can do now". He's getting too overpowered for this story for my liking. Conclusion: While it continues the great trend of writing from past issues, Gorr's power levels are getting a bit too nonsensical for me.

The Thundergirls bring awesome reinforcements to extend the fight against Gorr, but the baddie doubles down on his "all is lost, moo-hoo-hoo-ha" MO. I still have some doubts about the storytelling in art and words, but the truly cosmic scope and the tidy links to the original Gorr stories are just too dang good for me to rate this as less than great.

Edit: I write this several days after I rated this issue because I needed to calm down. I did previously mention that I find this mini unnecessary, self-congratulatory, and disrespectful. Now we crossed over to sick and wrong. WHATEVER GOOD HAPPENS IN THE AFTERMATH OF EVIL DIDN'T HAPPEN BECAUSE, BUT DESPITE THE EVIL. SO SAID EVIL DESERVES NO CREDIT FOR IT. ESPECIALLY NOT FROM THE PEOPLE THEY WRONGED!
